Daydreams

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is a picture that Maggi took of three Daydream plants that we have in the corner of our hoophouse. We had then planted in hanging baskets at first but they did not do as well as we wanted, growth went strait up, even though it was from cuttings above the Y. We planted an Orange Sunshine in a hanging basket earlier and just loved it. The OS bushed out and looked great. We are starting cutting for Maggi's cousin in Fort Worth to put in baskets all around the house. I can't wait to see how it works out.

Another thing that I noticed, when we planted the Brugs into larger pots for the Winter, all of the DDs lost all of their leaves but the OS did not. Oh well at least they did not loose their buds.

Pretty blooms. I've never even thought of putting brugs in hanging baskets. Got a photo of one?

Maggi's pc crashed and this is the onlp picture we have but as you can see this Brugs works well in a basket. This is the first day so the color is not there yet.

Lovely idea... and application.. it's growth suits the basket format.. and the hanging flowers are a natural there..

As I said, not all Brugs work this well in a basket. Orange Sunshine just seems to cascade out of it's pot. For this reason, cutting above the Y planted in the ground will give you blooms laying on the ground. OS was a seedling we grew out for JT and we gave him a cutting after it bloomed the first Summer. The next year he asked for a cutting below the Y because he just couldn't get any growth out of it, it just wanted to Y and bloom. I am glad this Brug roots well, if we are going to pot up all those baskets next year.

Gordon, where was this pajama party?

wow that is so cool I have a basket that is empty i am going to try that one...

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

pensacolagarden you will need a cutting from above the Y and even then not all Brugs work that well in baskets. Orange Sunshine's growth pattern just works well in baskets, Daydream did not.

well still i will try i have a noid yellow that forms that shape.......

Then I say go for it. I like the basket look when I have a Brug that grows out and not up.

yeah same here

Some brugs have more horizontal growth once they 'Y' and some have very vertical growth after the 'Y'. After seeing Maggi & Ken's pic of OS a while back, I started looking to see which brugs I might have that could make a good hanging basket. I'm gonna try 'Pink Favorite'. The trick is, you gotta find one that has really horizontal growth above the 'Y' and then use above the 'Y' cuttings for the hanging basket.

That was a great idea, Ken!
