Anyone have this or know anything about it? I got this from a begonia dig in September and it promptly lost all the leaves from potting it up. Now it has some decent leaves again but I can't really find much about it on the web. I did find the name in the database on the Abastro site but no pictures.
Dorothy Behrenda
I found it on the American Begonia Society's list of registered begonias:

It is actually Begonia "Frost's Dorothy Behrends." You might have the only photograph available on the Internet. I suggest you submit it to the Plant Files. Your plant is beautiful.
Thanks Cindy. I really couldn't read the handwriting on that tag, so I took the name from the Abastro site as being correct. I guess they are wrong and hopefully the ABS is right.
I may have to post this on the Yahoo group and see if any of the experts know if this plant looks right for the name.
Great looking plant. Where did you say you got it again?
Dude, it came from our annual begonia dig.
One of the members of our local chapter sponsors a "dig" every year in the last week or so of September. He plants begonias in different beds around the yard in spring, keeps them going through the hot, dry summer (using gray water this year), and lets members dig their selections in a round robin fashion until all is dug up or members have their fill. We pay $2 per plant that goes back into the club's fund.
Here is somebody's booty from this year. Not too bad for less than $20.
Great idea for a fundraiser.
I found a hydrocotlyfolia yesterday. I got a large plant for $6.00. If you ever come to Dallas you are going to have to let me take you to North Haven Gardens. Don Miller works there, the namesake for the Don Miller begonia, and he sells begonias from his privite collection. Really cool.
The ABS convention will be in Houston in May. Are you going to that?
I am thinking about it. Got to get clearance from the wife but am interested.
Well you have several months to get clearance. Sometimes you just have to say "I'm going so you can come along or stay." Anyway it is a great way to add to your collection - just bring your checkbook or cash. The nurseries usually take credit cards but some don't and that includes the sales at the end of the show.
