A friend of mine bought a Hibiscus, beautiful deep red, curly leaves. She gave me some cuttings, which rooted in water in only a couple of days. Problem is, nothing we do makes this thing happy. It grows leaves, which aren't curly, by the way, they fall off, then it grows more leaves, etc., etc. We've tried more water, less water, more light, less light. It grows like a weed, but hates having leaves...lol Blooms a tiny pink flower.
Any ideas?
Curly red leaves.
Hi are you sure it's a Hibiscus? Sounds like you have something other than a Hibiscus.................Gene
The tag said Hibiscus, the flower was small by Hibiscus standards, but Hibiscus looking...maybe a native or hybrid of a native?
How tiny was the flower? There are some hibiscus that have smaller flowers than others, but I've personally never seen one that I would refer to as "tiny". Any chance you could post a picture?
Well, tiny for a hibiscus ; )
Maybe 2 inches, withe a stripe, just like a mallow flower. No pic, it's gone, just like a Hibiscus flower ; (
Do you have any of the cuttings left? Could you post a picture of the leaves?
I've never had one but it may be a Rose of Sharon but don't hold me to that.......Gene
After a little research I belive that's what you have. Just google Rose Of Sharon and you can see and read all about them................Gene
Gene, I think that what he/she has is Hibiscus acetosella, a red-leaf hibiscus or false roselle.
How is doing your garden this year? I didn't see as many pics of your blooms as the previous years.
Regards
Carlos, from Belgium.
Carlos I'm still recovering from about a loss of about 125 plants last year due to an unexpected freeze. I still have a lot of mature plants but not much blooming right now. I have about 300 in the greenhouse that haven't started blooming yet but will before long. Good to hear from you......................Gene
