Can anybody guess the story behind this picture?

Here is a puzzle for you folks. Can anybody guess what is going on in this photo?

You are the "Bird Whisperer" and hypnotized the little fella??

I was going to say the same thing asleep/ hypnotized.

First-winter Starling. My guess it crashed into a window and part-stunned itself.

Of course there's always the possibility someone's done a clever bit of pic editing from a bird that was the other way up ;-)

Here's the scoop.......

Every summer after the starlings fledge young birds start falling down my mother's chimney ending up trapped in her wood stove. I'll find them flapping around in the stove or trying to fly back up the chimney (which actually creates a rather strange sound). After I have them in my hand I will rest them on their back and start stroking them on their belly. This seems to put them in a trance and they will go completely limp. I use to just wait with them resting on my open hand until they gather their limited wits together and fly off. I later started to get the birds to clasp onto my finger and have the hang there until they flew off. It's all rather entertaining and harmless to the birds. Next year I will have to try to see if I can transfer one of these hypnotized birds to a tree limb and get a picture. Oh what we Vermontas get up to for amusement!

Nice! I had a couple in my downspout this year. I'll have to get those covered with wire. Unless… I want to become a hypnotizer too. Maybe I can convince them to not eat so much suet!
