Is it possible to find the original old fashioned violet?

Hometown, IL(Zone 5a)

My mom used to grow the old-style violets; plain blue abundant flowers, with slightly scalloped dark foliage. They were very large plants. This was about 25-30 years ago.

Does this culivar exist anymore? I'd like to give it a try in the Spring. (Way too late to order/trade plants now here in Illinois...brrrrr.)

Thanks,

Marsha

The Original violet is the S. ionantha. This was the very first violet ever, which is still around today. But I am not sure that is matches your description as the leaves are small and light.

Maybe your Mom's plant was a Viola?
