Cassia corymbosa

roeselare, Belgium

Hello,

Does anybody know how to maintain a Cassia corymbosa, I live in belgium and at night it can freeze a bit out here.
Do i have to cover these plant or take them inside or something?

An other question, does anybody knows the Crotalaria family, how should i take care about them?
I was looking for the id from a tree and some say its a Crotalaria lanata beddom, does that sound familiar for anybody, I have heaps of photos from both of the plants , If somebody wants to see them to have a better idee, let me know

Thanks on beforehand

Wim

Hi Wim,
I'm thinking you should treat it like a tropical plant, cover it during light frosts, take it inside or on a porch for longer periods of 1C weather.
I did find a website that says it is sub tropical, mabe you will find it helpful.
This is the site I usually go to concerning cassias.

Good luck.

rj, went to your link. I have:Flowering Maple, Weeping maple,Chinese lantern
In the orange color. Has been in a hanging basket all summer and someone told me it was winter hardy. I have my doubts although it is in the ground.
Can you help?

aahh..the lovely Abutilons.
There are soooooooo many, but I will say that many of them prefer above freezing. They will with stand some frost, as in...oh noooo, I forgot to bring my lovely Flowering Maple, chinese bell flower lantern plant inside and it frosted last night! I would protect it, put it on the porch or something.
That would be for hanging baskets..If it's in the ground, is there a fence, tree, house nearby? or is it a roadside strip. If it has some sort of protection like the fence, you could mulch it heavily and cover it during frosts.
Chances are if your worried about it, that small voice is already instructing you what to do!
Check out all these Abutilons!

I think you are right. At the last minute while trying to find a place to put everything, I planted it in the ground. It is 37 this morning and raining. supposed to rain all day and tomorrow. will have to chance it until Monday. I really need a real greenhouse but it is not in the budget.

Thanks for your help.

I think as long as they're wet, they'll be fine as the water insulates them
