I purchased a rosemary plant and planned on keeping it in the greenhouse until spring to plant it. However, I just looked at it and there are quite a few brown needles. I figure it would do better in the ground, but I fear it is too late to plant it. Any suggestions? I have never had too much luck with these and don't want to lose this one.
Thanks, Kim
need help with rosemary
One of my DDs just gave me another Xmas tree shaped rosemary. She is new to gardening (or at least a novice) and loves the smell of this stuff if not the taste. Bought herself one also. The directions say it is safe down to about 20 F., once established in the ground enjoys an arid soil. Mines still in the pot (we are house hunting). It also needs a lot of sun. The ones I have had before and had to leave behind were in the ground exposed to all the elements and they thrived. Sometimes doing nothing to plants is the best way to be nice to them. Others may have had different experiences, of course. This is just mine. Good Luck!

Mine is in the ground and in partial shade and does great, too. Go ahead and plant it, Kim. You may have to cover it up when it gets really cold, but it should be ok.
Thanks everyone...it'll go in the ground this weekend after this cold spell subsides. I love the smell too....and up north I would always buy one only to have it die off because I had to keep it in the house all winter. I got so excited when I realized they could grow in the ground here.

Kim, Make sure it has great drainage. That seems to be a big reason they don't do well around here. Our clay soil can hold too much water for them. If need be, put them in an area that is higher than the surrounding ground
In the ground definitely ~ I am growing upright and a trailing variety. Both are a bit raised and sheltered from too much moisture (should it ever rain ) A friend has his in the bald open sun and on sandy soil. It has become a monster like Bubbas'. I too would say plant it now. You will be delighted to see delicate the blue blooms thru winter...
Gee, mine has been in a pot for years ... maybe i need to put it in the ground so it will bloom. I didn't know this one will bloom.
