Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree.....
Just to get you in the mood...
EVERGREEN CARNAGE! Although the posting of all the festive trees and wreaths is appreciated for it pushes me into acknowledgement that it really is approaching winter and not summer anymore :( I like the blends in the potted plants.
Happy Holidays to all.
Very pretty and festive. I have found my Christmas spirit looking at these.
The kids were putting up lights this weekend and we all enjoyed a cup of hot coco in the cool crisp air.
Thanks for sharing the photos.
I really like the combo pots. what a great way to add some cheerfulness.

Ohmygawd, its the christmas invasion!! WHO had to tie all those bows and plunk on all those little bitty ornaments? Sheesh. I'm stickin' to my one tree, and leaving that until Christmas eve.
Laurie, do you really wait until Christmas Eve !? How long does it stay up after?
* I take mine down day after Christmas - so just curious to what everyone else does.
Love the pictures, the combo planters are very cute. I was at Al;s in Sherwood last week, and the colors of their poinsettias are truly breathtaking - huge variety.
Yes, we really do put it up on Christmas Eve, I like the impact of having it all of the sudden - in fact, we actually go and cut the tree just a couple of days before that (our neighbour planted a 12 trees several years ago, and lucky us, we get to share!) Its quite a nice feeling to walk home with it. We keep it up until the first, and then down it comes. I love the impact of waiting, it keeps it all very special.
Having said that I do wrap the presents earlier, and they are in a pile up in husbands study - this is part practical (we both still work full time) and part for fun. I'm not that much of a bahhhh humbug. In fact, I'm very pro-pressies! (Particularly the ones with labels addressed to ME!!!!!)
lol - sounds fabulous. And I agree, no one wants a mountain of presents to wrap all in one night - no fun.
Gowin... now you gone and done it:) we will all be asking you how to take care of our trees.
Seriously which nursery do you work for and what do you recomend as the best treatment for keeping our trees green. We like to put ours up as early in Dec as we can and enjoy them a long time. Some years they loose a lot of needles and others they really hang on. We have tried different types of trees. cut a x in the bottom of the tree, added an aspirin to the water hmmmm what else can I think of. There so many ideas tell us what is recomended. Oh I also heard that some co. cut the trees 6 months early and we get old trees ready to loose their leaves. Do some really do that?
So many questions I know.
I voted for you to be the official " Elf for Christmas cheer "
Bea
Growin,
Where can I get one of the pots full of plants, just love them...
All the trees made me go and get out the Christmas music and listen to it, one of my favorite things to do during the season. Thanks for starting me earlier this year so I can enjoy it longer!
Happy Holidays,
Carla
me too Carla they started the Christmas music on k103 and the kids and I totally enjoyed it !
Soooo,,,, who shops on Black Friday?
Growin,
You kinda made me miss my days in the nursery, But to old for it now, just cant flip them trees up on top of cars anymore maybe once or twice then its time to stop.
Now I'm on the other side of the coin, you got the trees I got all the goodies to go under it. at least I don't have to put red bows on them. (love the tree pic)
I only have to deal with the boxed kind, (fake)
I can never shop on Black Friday, Because I'm the elf in the black vest, getting up at 2am to be at Santa's Favorite Store by 4am to make it ready to open the doors at 6am for all them crazy people. ( and I pick retail as my profession, I must be nuts)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL
Tills
lol, cocoajuno. My co-worker made them up from material in the nursery. These were just samples but I thought they were great. I don't think they ship south of the border.
mommum, it's a large wholesale nursery that supplies the homedepots. I know as much about taking care of Christmas trees as everyone else here. I have just never seen that many, stacked up in a large field. I'm the "Elf for Christmas Cheer", eh?
Laurie1, the labour workers tied all those bowes and decorated the little potted trees. Congrats on that nice photo of your of your barn. :-)
Merry Christmas
Elf garland
I think I'm getting a bit too old for the nursery stuff too. I loaded 28 6' b&b Taxus and my back is killing me. They bring in some really nice material from Skagit Gardens weekly.
Now I find out the truth. Ha Ha
Ooooooh. Nice - I might have to have that Enkianthus on my wish list. Is the yellow plant with it a different variety?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!
Great color Growin....
To bad it is so big, I don't have room in my garden for anything that big....sure wish they had color like that in real dwarf things.... Keep coming with all the beautiful pictures of growing things, it refreshing for all of us! Also helps us get lists going for spring!
Thanks,
Carla
Katie, the Enkianthus is a block of the same cultivar - 'Red Bell'. I just thought the variety of fall colours was wonderful for all being the same plant.
gorgeous Fall color Growin !!! woweee !
Wow. No kidding?! I like the variety, too. One plant playing off another. Your picture are great; I love the frosting . . .
Growin,
Beautiful, how big is the Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Rainbow' and is it one you can keep trimmed to the size you want?...I love the colors!
Love the Rosemary too! All of them are great...terrific picture taking!
Thanks again,
Carla
Thanks cocoajuno. You can keep the 'Rainbow' trimmed down to 2-3' but it will grow again to 4+'. The plants in the picture are 4" pots & 2' rooted cuttings.
Very nice selection Growin - I'm voting for you to be the Christmas Elf too, especially since you can do this nice selection of plants to load on Santa's sleigh!
Hang on a minute though with all that Christmas music!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought you lot didn't do Christmas humming until after the Thanksgiving feast - you have to get through one Turkey before you can start dreaming about sugar plums fairys and mistletoe and all that hohohoing, don't you? I thought that was the retail rule. Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving, followed by Christmas, followed by New Years, followed by Valentine's day - you're so orderly! Over here, the summer sales end in July, and the first of the Christmas departments open in late August (takes them a while to get the flocked wallpaper up in Santa's Grotto). And what is Black Friday shopping? sounds like Homeland Security gets involved in Christmas!!!! I can't bear it! Ohhhhh, I'm definately going wobbly on this - don't disillusion me! This is worse than finding out there was no Sa.......no, I can't even say it, I can't take two disillusionments in one year. There definately is a SANTA CLAUS, cuz Growin is working for him this year.
I'm going out to rake.
Laurie, luckily this"Black Friday" has nothing to do with our Homeland Security folks. It is called that because it used to be the day of the year in retail that companies got into the Black ink on their balance sheet. All that Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving, dontcha know... Nowadays, companies put out insane sales on limited quantities of items and open for business at times when folks should be in bed dreaming about sugar plums. (4am, 5am) People will stand in line overnight to be the first in the stores. I stay far, far away and take my chances later on...
Growin, I was wanting to pot up a combination very similar to those combo planters of yours! I'm jealous of your wintergreen! I gave up my idea when I couldn't find a decent size of it for less than $10. By the way, do you wear elf shoes at the nursery, or do they interfere with tree loading?
Hmmm...limited toe protection.
And they would definately not work if you wore them shopping on Black Friday.
I heard it might be dry tomorrow - all the more reason to stay home & play outside.

Boy, if you wore elf shoes over here you might have the whole store to yourself!! I love the image! must try it. I bet they could steel cap them.
growin... more great photo's, just love them. I am going to be looking for all these on the island now that I know wqhere to look for them:) Our Home Depot better stock some.
Awwe looks like everyong has pictured you as an elf. We all need a little magic and your photos are just the ticket.
