Hello,
I recently bought a peacock, and plan to get him a peahen. I have built him a huge pen out of an old boat shed that we never used. I love the look of the silkies. My question is, do you think I could house the peacocks and silkies in the same pen? I have read that peacocks are quite protective of their territory. He is just a baby though, and I have only had him in his area for about a week. It may be a bad idea...Im not sure...what are your thoughts?

I have personally never had either but the owner of my favorite greenhouse has a large pen that houses several peacocks, peaheans and an assortment of chickens. He allows them to run when the greenhouse is open and pens them up together at night. They get along very well at his place.
My peacock gets along fine with everybody, including my silkies, He does however, have this plan in his head of where everybody belongs in the yard and is constantly trying to guide them back if they are out of place. He displays for the silkies all the time and dances around them. Funny birds.
jylgaskin, I have been tempted to buy a peacock too. What color variety do you have? Our neighbors ave a few them. We hear the cats meowing late in the evenings. I keep telling my wife they're cat birds. She says ... oh.. duh. It is hilarious but they're calling to each other from 2 directions about 1/2 mile apart and a bit further than that from our place.
Hello!
I have had peafowl for a few years now, the same pair, India blues. My peahen is very aggressive. When i had other chickens free ranging with her, she went after them all the time. She even killed one of my little banty hens, (she pecked it in the head). Since moving to our new home, she still does not like the chickens. The peafowl free range(we live in the middle of 100 acres deep in the woods). She does not bother the guineas and hangs out with them all the time. I tried to let my banties loose here and they just kept running around my feet to get away from her. Maybe she is just mean. She also attacks dogs. She even tries to get to the chickens through the run. The peacock could care less about the chickens, unless it was feeding time.
George
Photographer, I have a green and have had him for a year and a half. He's a super easy bird to take care of. He roosts high in a tree and eats whatever anyone else is eating, plus his treats. He is not noisy either, unless I sleep late and he wants his treats. Then he comes to my upstairs bedroom window and either pecks on it or calls "Beep!" He puts on quite a show with his juvenile feathers. I can't wait till this summer when he has his full train.
Thanks for all your advice. Sounds like something I could try. Now I just need to find a good source for silkies lol.
