Tulips

Garfield, AR

We are having a planting disagreement. I say we need to plant our tulips now.
But my boyfriend thinks we need to wait till the ground gets cold.
Who is right?

As far as I know I plant now and I also plant in the spring to. I heard you can plant in the fall , try some now and than when it gets cold try and plant then

Bulbs may rot if the soil temperature is too high. 40 to 55F is the range I've seen recommended. Don't know how likely rot is. Depends on how wet the area is I suppose. I used a meat thermometer to check the soil before putting in my first batch of bulbs.

Of all the fall planted bulbs, tulips are traditionally the last group planted...

Thanks for the info. I guess he is right! Took the soil temp yesterday and it is about 58.
