Need an ID please, if anyone can help. Have tons of seed from this ginger that I'd like to trade for other gingers...other than Hedy's.
Can anyone ID this Spiral Ginger
Could be Costus Specious 'Tetraploid' ????? not positve tho..
Sure is pretty whatever it is!! It does look a little like the photos I've seen of costus species. Hope you get a definite answer lol. Looks like you have a nice little jungle there anyhow.
Hey cannagirl, the nanner seeds you gave me, sprouted ! ~ yeahhh they are soo cute!
Nadine, I'm thinking this is a ginger I got from you 3 or 4 yrs. ago at the Mercer Plant Swap. Thanks for the tip on the ID. I'll check it out.
Angel Tree thanks! This is one of my favorite gingers for a tropical look. Just wait until you see your nanners bloom :) Here is a picture of flower from summer.
Cool...I got that ginger here..mmm..
Your pink nanner is awesome~really gorgeous!! Can't wait for mine to flower!
Nadine, I thought it was one of your gingers. Thanks for sharing it with me. I'm trying to get some seeds germinated. Have you tried growing from seeds?
Angel Tree, those seedlings grow fast!!! You should have some good sized nanner trees next summer. I don't know how long they take to bloom....need to read up on it.
WOW, I want some of those! :)
Misty, I'll put you some seed in the mornings mail. Is your address in the exchange?
OH WOW! Yes mam I am! You are so awesome! I wasn't expecting that at all. I won't say what I said when I read your post! LOL Thank you so much, and I can't wait til I am able to do the same for others!
Lol, Tammy I love sharing my plants/seeds. either in trades or sase. This type of sharing is found on just about any garden site....A lot of what I grow comes from either trades or sases, so my sharing is like passing on what has been shared with me. I can look at a plant and know just about who sent it to me, and remember the kindness of that person sharing with me. Like the ginger above from Nadine.....which is now being passed onto you & others.
Your seeds are going out this morning and I've added some extras. Looking forward to trading with you later on.
Oh I just can't hardly wait to get the mail each and every day! It is like having Christmas all the time! I am just so excited! The weather is SOOOOOOOO nasty today, but I am still trying to get my green house totally finished so I can keep all these beauties going year round! YIPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for me! LOL
I can't wait to have the ability to do the same for others! :)
Oh shoot, I almost forgot about this one! How could I have gone and done a thing like that???!!! SHAMEFUL, I am!
Thanks Liz! This ginger adds such a beautiful tropical look to my garden every year, and has fast become one of my favorite gingers. I'll try growing some in full sun this spring and see how they do. The ones now grow in almost full shade.
Lol, Mistygardener. Hope your seeds make lots of gingers for you. They are a sight to see grow.
Wow!! Lucky you, Cannagirl! Mine are growing in full sun too, but nary a bloom :(
Have some in pots, now waiting to see whether miracles happened in GH.
Heavenscape, I grow mine in super rich, well drained soil. Water them in summer months at least every over day. Mulch heavy with pinestraw in the fall. They seem to love this combination. The fertilizer I use to make my super rich soil is composted cow manure, then I add top soil, & bone meal. I pour this mix over all my tropical garden beds every spring.
Thnx for your priceless tips. I'll try the bone meal next year. We mulch all our plants heavily with fine pine mulch, at least 4-6 inches. 3 inches was recommended by the nurseries around here, but I always go that extra inch.
I think it is because of this region's shorter warm months that they failed to produce blooms. Only the hedychiums do well for me. I had tried costus barbatos too, killed them :((
The 3 "crepe" costus left in GH, are given the proper temp., humidity and moisture. Hope next spring, they'll still be around.
Heavenscape, I bet your right about these gingers needing a longer growing season. Mine don't even start to bloom until sometime around Sept. Hope yours do well in the GH and you have lots of blooms this summer.
