Begonia-What am I?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I bought a small tin that was full of what said "Bromeliad" assortment, but I knew at least a couple of them were not. Could you help me with which begonia this is? Any help is greatly appreciated. Misty

No clue to what this is?

Sorry, know it's a begonia--somebody will come along and identify it for you, eventually.

Thanks, I was beginning to think no one was ever on this thread. :(

Hi Misty,

It looks like some kind of tuberous/reiger begonia to me but someone will argue about most anything I say, so I try not to give my two cents anymore unless I'm 99% sure. Blooms will help ID it further.

Thanks, and I appreciate any help on IDing it as I can get. :) I don't know when, or if it will flower, being my luck! LOL

I definitely need all the help I can get! :)

Oh yes, Misty, as they are too many of us who don't know and so few of hcmcdole who do know!

Gail, I would be tickled pink if I knew half of what you know, though! :)
In ways it stinks being a newbie, but on the other hand, I love learning about everything! Now I have to learn about Orchids, too, as I bought 3 of them today! :)

How exciting, misty gardener. I just potted up my first 4 phals i got in a trade. You should have seen me mixing all the bark, peat, charcoal and spaghnum moss when I had no earthly idea what I was doing.

I can't wait to be able to get some in the spring. My 2 vandas are still looking healthy, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Ciada and i just traded plants. I sent her all hoyas and she sent me begonias. They are incredibly beautiful . She even tagged them.......over a dozen rexes and the same number of canes. Wow, was I ever lucky.

I think she said she got some in a trade with hcmcdole, too.

LOL, kinda speakin Spanish to me since I have no clue what SO MANY things are! :( I am thinking about using these in a large glass jar that I had made into a Terrarium for my Hosta, but with what I have learned, my Hosta needs cold. I have to cut the woody stem part off because they are totally gone, but each have leaves, so I hope I can do it!
I did see the pic of a basket full of stuff you had posted, it was amazing! I have been so lucky to receive so many seeds from DGer's, I feel blessed! And I have more on the way. :)
I just hope that some day I know just a bit of what you all know! Misty

Is it maybe one of the semperflorens? With the rounded leaves and joints that's what it kinds looks like to me but I'm definitely not a begonia expert!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

It does kinda resemble this one:

Maybe I will get lucky and it will bloom for me someday! :) Thanks Diane. :)

Your welcome- just hope I'm not steering you the wrong way? But if that's what it is, it should be easy to bloom. Here they're used as bedding plants considered annuals.

I love begonia's and still have the pleasure of seeing some outside that are alive in my little green house. I am amazed as it has been down in the low 20's several nights in a row! My Impatiens on the bottom shelf are just now looking droopy, but they are on the second from the bottom. I just love going out on the front deck and seeing them! :)
