So I went onto the herbs forum and we discussed it, and I seem to be decided on a clover lawn. White clover seems to be best - not only is it a nitrogen fixer, but it's springy and soft and will overtake the grass, as well as being nice to look at and lawn-y.
Now I need seed! I don't really have a 'have' list set up much. I have tons of chocolate mint I could trade, and a few veggie seeds of various types (black or white sesame, anyone?). Um... I could share other veggie seeds, but I don't have a lot of flowers. Okay, I have ONE flower, and it's winter-dormant right now, and I don't know if it'll come back in the spring.
If anyone has white clover seeds please let me know - I'll have a look at your want list and see if I can provide anything for it? I'm going to need quite a lot of it, I think, if I'm going to cover the lawn with it instead of grass in the spring.
Thanks,
Sev
CLOSED: Wanted: White Clover Seed (maybe cuttings in April)
Interesting about the choice of white clover for your 'yarden'. I was not too familiar with it except that it is a delicious nectar plant for butterflies...
Here is a site that sells the 'Dutch' strain of white clover. At $3.49 for a quarter pound it's not such a bad deal, I wouldn't think...

I suppose you will have to do something to protect the seeds from the birds....

See if you have a County Co-op in your area, white clover seed is cheap and you don't have to pay postage. They will also tell you when to plant and which clover you need. I believe here we are suppose to plant it in Feb, zone 7.

Thank you, Judy, that's a great idea.
I'll check out the link too - will have to do some price checking to find it. I'm looking forward to it - I was dreading the idea of buying stupid big bags of grass seed just so we'd have to MOW the lawn all the darn time. Hubby's thrilled with the idea, too - he has no objections to me deciding to save him some labor time. *laugh*
