'Orange Jubilee' Esperanza for trade

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey everyone. New on the trade scene here.
I have lots of Tecoma 'Orange Jubilee" seeds that I would love to trade.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/60979/

I am interested in pretty much everything except veggies. I have a brand new garden with practically nothing in it.

I have them packaged at 50 seeds each.
They have done very well in my germination tests. (coffee filter baggy)
In my zone (8b) they bloom constantly from Spring through Fall.

Any takers?

I would like to give that a try.

BTW 50 seeds a shot is more than you need.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

lol, I know, but I have more than plenty. I counted out over a thousand yesterday. I have several of these at my office and when I see the pods I can't help but snatch them.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I would be interested in trying these. I have triple purple datura, hibiscus calyphyllus, cassia alata, pink celosia.

Thanks, Kim

Hi there,

I have the yellow Esperanza and love it. I'd love to have some orange growing here also. Would you be interested in some:

Seeds from any/or all of these three:

Candle Bush, Empress Candle Plant, Candletree, Candelabra Bush, Ringworm Tree
Senna alata
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/371/
These can be used as shrubs or trees. I've seen them both ways and they are fantastic!

Monarch Rosemallow, October Rose, Ruby Hibiscus
Hibiscus radiatus
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59791/
These grow like crazy here and get about 7 ft. tall. Full of fall blooms

Purple datura? I'm not sure exactly which one of these I have. It's most like this one. I'll post a photo of my own that was started from seeds that came from my sister earlier this year. The plant files I'm including will give you growing info about them.

Kim, I would love the triple purple datura. (Are they hard to grow?)
Unique, I'd love to try the hibiscus. Noticed the plant files said it may be invasive, have you had any problems with that?

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Kim,

We were cross posting while I was getting my photo together. We have some of the same plants there.

I've got plenty of other plants James that I'd be happy to send cuttings of instead. I think this link will take you to a journal that I was keeping up with last year. About the only new thing I've added this year is about 75-80 different coleus. I don't remember if I've posted those in my journal or not. I've always had trouble posting the link to my own journal so if that doesn't work, let me know and I'll try it again. By the way, the journal is set up by sections of the yard. There are plants all over the place. It was the only way I could think of to "organize" things. :-)

Thanks Janet. I have been reading so much about Daturas and Brugs that I think I need to see what all the fuss is about. lol. I especially love the triples. I think I would like to give them a try.

James, the October Rose Hibiscus grew well for me.

I've talked about it in other forums. This was my first year of growing it. It started out looking like "pot" plants. Grew into monsterous proportions against my back fence and over the edges of the beds. Because I didn't plan it's location properly, I had to cut it way back several times before it bloomed for me. The branches of the plant get a bit sticky. OK a lot sticky! HAHAHAHA It hurt to mow close to it when it was hanging over the beds I'd put it in. The last time we cut it back it was over 7 ft. tall. I wish now that I'd put it where I should have because it's been blooming it's fool head off since the end of September. 20-25 blooms every day. The blooms are small and petite. To collect the seeds is not easy. I cut off the seed pods ***just before*** they were ready to explode and left the seeds in the pods in a dish in my office. They've been drying in those pods since then. I will shake the seeds out while wearing heavy leather gloves, before I send them out. The "trunks" on the plants are about 1 1/2" around.

I haven't seen them spreading (yet). They are a beautiful plant, but really need to be planned because of their less desirable qualities.

My yard is on the small side. I have 3 grandbabies that love to play out in the back yard. I had a wedding in my back yard in August. Had none of those things been an issue, the plants would have been most welcome to get as big as they wanted to.

I have now told you everything I know about them. :-)

I have plenty of stuff that you are most welcome to try. I will be putting a lot of things "away" for the winter soon. It's a good time to get some cuttings. If you are interested, check out the journal and let me know what you'd like to try. Send me a Dmail with your list and I'll put you a box together. It may be after Thanksgiving when I get the box out. Mom is heading this way on Monday. She keeps on moving the day of arrival. HAHAHAHA I still have much house cleaning to do in the mean time. :-)

The purple datura seeds are yours. Thanks!

Kim

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, I look dumb. I totally crossed you and kim's post. Actually. I have a pretty good sized yard (for a regular subdivision anyway) and something like a thousand square feet of empty flower beds. I also have some privacy issues on a 2 sides of the yard so this plant sounds good.
I'll admit it now. The one yard chore I really don't like doing is mowing the lawn. So I have a yard guy come do it. Which means, I'll let him worry about mowing next to it. haha.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

:-) You're a sneaky one, aren't you!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll tell you if I could afford a housekeeper and a lawn guy I would be in heaven. lol.

Okay, a couple of people have mentioned now that 50 seeds is too many. Do you guys think I should cut that number down?
I think maybe I just did that many because I am a newbie and I would probably kill 49 seedlings before 1 survived. lol.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

i would like some. i have lilac ddatura, hindu datura, moonvine, red texas hibiscus, hardy pink hibiscus, and edible hibiscus. plmk
and yes, i think 50 seeds is way to much

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, how about 25 seeds. If anyone wants more than that just let me know.

Jordan, where is Bessemer? My family lives in Ozark, AL, just outside Ft. Rucker. I miss the beautiful Pine trees. I would love the moonvine.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

bessemer is 15 miles from birmingham, and 30 from tuscaloosa. and yes the pines are beutiful. will send the moonvine seeds to you. are you in the addy exchange? and 25 seeds is way to many for me. 5-10 is plenty
thanks

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

You got it. I am in the exchange.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

so am i. will send seeds tomorrow, and thank you

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

No problem. I'm super excited. This is my first trade post, and I can already tell that it is going to be addictive.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

The October Rose Hibiscus, you mean a confederate rose? Sounds like the same thing but I've never heard it called that. Blooms look like this one?

Core, it's quite a bit different than the Confederate Rose Hibiscus. My sister Connie has one of those and it's gorgeous and .. ahem, very well behaved! HAHAHAHA

Thanks for the trades guys, I'm looking forward to trying all your stuff.
Everything is going out in the mail today.

I still have PLENTY of these seeds left if anyone else is interested.

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

I'd be interested...sending you a dmail...

Chesapeake, VA

I would like some seeds. I can offer some castor bean seeds - or would you rather have something else? I have nasturium seeds, orange mum seeds, liatris seeds, Lady Baltimore Hibiscus seeds (warning - hibiscus seeds can get "buggy", although I haven't seen any sign of it yet with these), hollyhock seeds...

Just let me know.

25 of your seeds is fine with me.
