Is this U.decaryi? Why does it have lobed leaves? Even plants pictured have different leaves. Could this be U.peltata?

Thousand Oaks, CA

Yes, this is Uncarina decaryi. It haslobed leaves because U. decaryi is variable (as many species are) and its leaves can range from entire all the way to digitate. They often vary between the two between the early and late in the season. The leaves are not the major factor in determining species ID here.

Why would Uncarina peltata have digitate, as opposed to peltate, leaves? U. peltata has very large (10" +) entire, hairy, pale green leaves, quite different from U. decaryi.
