What kind of Bantam is this?

Conroe, TX

We purchased a group of bantams back in June. They are all different. We have 3 Polish, one Cochin and this little gal (we are assuming its female). Very gentle nature, pretty small compared to the Polish. Also doesn't seem to like the cooler weather. Though we live in south TX, when its been in the 50's in the morning (like today) she hunkers down and shivers, her comb turns dark on the tips. Can anyone shed some light on what breed this may be. All our Bantams went through a case of Fowl Pox so her comb and beak were affected. Her comb has part missing and is shorter right in the front. Thanks!

Howdy from Kentucky,

that looks like a silver seabright mix. She sure is cute.

I kind of thought she looked like a seabright too, but she doesn't have the rose comb. What do you think she may be mixed with?

Her neck and some feathers remind me of a pencil laced bantam I saw at a show but cannot remember what kind it was.
She's pretty no matter what she is!

Try looking around this site for her http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKPoultryPage.html

Bantams are sure cute. I'd have them too but the feral cats eat ALL of the small animals here. They even go after the wild cottontail rabbit nests. I saw 2 beaver yesterday and the day before about 100 feet from my front porch for the 1st & 2nd times in more than a year. Our local land baron hired his Mexicans to shoot all the beavers in the stream. They're just starting to come back.

I took the advice of LoraK and went to the feathersite. I couldn't find anything that looked like her but I did email them and send the picture. I got an answer back right away. He said it looks like a poor silver sebright or a sebright mix as Alcymhst suggested. Whatever she is she is a cutie and so very tame. I wouldn't mind having several like her.

I just saw this and I'd say sebright mix
possibly with a old english

sebrights are nice birds

I looked at my SS this morning and none of them have that large of a waddle and crest, maybe she's a he????

Conroe, TX

You know at first we thought it was a he because at about 3 maybe 4 months it crowed. Did that for a few days and hasn't done it since and she/he is about 6 months now. We have a Polish bantam that just started crowing. We figured he was a rooster because for a bantam he is pretty good size and a lot heavier than the other Polish we have. This one I posted the picture of weighs only about 16oz and is so tiny compared to the others. Whatever this one is it is extremely tame and loves to be petted.

the problem with sebrights is that the males are hen feathered
They don't get the sickle and hackle ,and saddle feathers that most males get

Here is another picture of her/him.

She looks like a Silver Sebright mix...very sweet.

although it has a single comb not a rosecomb it looks to me like a silver sebright x silver spangled hamburg x ?. my guess would be roo going by comb size, age, waddles and the fact it has crowed before.

It's not unusual for a single comb to pop up in a group of rosecombs. I have that situation with my wyandottes. I agree, though, it looks like a Sebright to me.

I second silkiechick's opinion.

You could try to google 'American Bantam Poultry Association Standard of Perfection' no sure if they have a website, but the publish the standards for all the breeds. I have to try it myself, as I have some UFO bantams.

ya know i was trying to figure where the single comb came from for the life of me but the look and coloration only to me look like those two breeds. i don't see any features that to me look like another kind in there. so i second queenb on the single comb pop up.

i used to raise columbian wyndottes and i forgot that happens sometimes with rosecombs and no it is not uncommon. i have a friend who has a silver sebright but she has a pea comb so i forget they are roses too(i knew it didn't have the right comb but i couldn't remember what it was suppost to be), i had to double check feathersite, lol but yes both those breeds are rosecombs and a pop up would explain why i don't see another breed look in there. the more pencil lined markings around the ends of the feathers are the silver laced sebright showing but the more splotchy patches(like around the chest ect) would be the silver spangled showing which makes for the odd patterns in the feathering.

he sure is beautiful and very unique patterned!! i love that top pic too!!

Thanks for all the info. Thanks silkiechick for the explanation on the feathering.
I think he/she is a beauty too and sure is a sweet little thing.

Just thought I'd post this picture of her/him as a chick. So adorable and so tiny.
