Anybody doing egg crafts/ornaments?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, so I have about 2 dozen eggs blown out. We scrambled the eggs and ate them so no waste. :)

I've seen many wonderful things done with the eggs but I'm afraid my houseful of kids and critters will demolish them.

Anyone else doing crafts with their home grown eggs? What did you do?

I took feathers, glitter, beads and glued them to the eggs...used them on the Christmas tree
painted some with metalic gold paint.......
I'm picturing your girls now........

Hey CC!

Have you ever heard of anything you can put inside to make them a bit more durable? The only thing I've really read is using glue on the holes to keep them from cracking.

I have to admit I kind of like looking at them natural colored in a group. Maybe I feel a rustic Christmas coming on. :)

I saw a kind of tacky thing at the dollar store that I wanted then figured I'd go back when I had more time and they were gone! It was a chicken made out of some kind of open wire then the body looked like old glass but it was plastic and open so you could put stuff in it. I really wish I'd have bought it!

Do you have any pictures of your eggs? I'd like to do a centerpiece with one of those little decorative metal 'trees' you put on your table and hang eggs on the branches.

Hello! badseed
Imagine running in to you over here. I have seen christmas ornaments made from blown eggs. It looked like they chipped off the eggs where the hole for blowing had to have been in the middle and had used something like cotton or batting for the bottom of egg and then put little christmas type people and animals in the egg. They had covered the outside with some type of paint and some had glitter. Then it looked like they used glue to add a hanger. It was like a shadow box egg. These where in an antique store. I think I would lose my mind doing these. Some also had glued "gems" on them. Since the holidays are coming up and most people store there christmas stuff after the holidays, this might keep them safe from critters and kids. Just an idea.

Hello George!

Yes imagine! LOL

When it gets cold and I can't garden, I get all crafty and homey. LOL

Your ideas sound really cute! I'm not worried about storing them. I'm worried about the time they are in the house. I'm sure you've seen cats climb the tree...and from time to time the tree gets toppled from vigorous kids and dogs...Maybe I should make a plexi-glass safe for all my pretties!

I'm coming to lots of odd and scary conclusions after googling.

1) I might need some Ostrich and Emu and geese and...
2) Blown eggs can be expensive.
3) Special egg decorations are expensive!
4) Maybe I should look harder at creating fancy eggs. LOL
5) Even though I'm allergic to bees, I could make really cool and inexpensive candles if I grew my own beeswax!

These are pretty! http://culture.polishsite.us/articles/art275fr.htm

Reality has snapped back and I should go switch the laundry. LOL
