Here's an email I got from a friend today. Didn't know where to post it, but I wanted to share since it's really neat.

A very eventful day around here... A once in many lifetimes experience!
Here's an emai I got today from a friend I wanted to share since it's so cool! Didn't really know which forum to post it to.

Mark saw this lil' fella run out in front of a car, thought it was a lost baby goat. Stopped to get it, and WOW. A real Albino Whitetail Deer. Just hours old, but doing fine. No Momma deer around. Another car nearly hit it in front of Mark...
Well,, he is THE neatest thing any of us ever saw. And such a 'freak of nature', that only 1 in more than a million are even born. He took his bottle of food, followed us around the house, doing great. So, we called the Zoo &Fossil Rim, who were both interested, but we're going to send him to a Rehab farm. Maybe he will make it in captivity somewhere and be appreciated. So rare... Sure wanted to keep him tho. but, not the thing to do. And not LEGAL either ; But, here are a couple of pix to show ya. He was snow white, pink eyes, ears, nose and hooves. Kids called him POWDER. He was SO small. That is my shoe lying beside him... WOW..how cool is that??

That is a small deer even for a fresh one. It was probably best to grab him or her because I don't see the odds in favor of a small white deer.

He is so beautiful ! Is it true that the mother deer will abandon an albino baby deer?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

It must be if there was no momma around. What a sweet little fellow.

Wouldn't the zoo be a better place? perhaps after Rehab farm? Not sure if albinos live very long in captivity, but for this little fella, the NC Zoo maybe good - food, med care, vets on staff. Im not familar with Rehab farms.... :0)

BDunn, Please let us know how he is and if a zoo like Rebecca mentioned will care for him. His pink eyes and ears have stolen my heart. I'm counting seven mothers on this forum who want to know that he is well taken care of.
Thanks for sharing him with us. We could name him Casper. Do you have another name for him, anyone ?

Well, guys, here's an email link I received. Seems like this email about the albino deer has been floating around a couple of years. Oh, well. I guess we can't really call it a hoax since it hasn't been proven one way or the other. Sorry!

Hi,
Don't know weather it is a hoax or not but it is beautiful... I have seen a pair of deers this color... It took me almost a year to get a picture of one of them and it was the female... My job/boss lives on a 300 acre farm and also there is about 600 acres around that where no one is allowed to hunt. I can't find the picture but the male was shot from the highway and mounted on some dumb craps wall... I have never seen the female nor has anyone up there again... It is a shame.... Also when we moved here 18 years ago I went to a shower and there was one on there wall... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Oh well, it is still a good story. I was thinking this was a recent event. It happened many years ago but I still think the picture is great.
There have been many sightings of white deer in the Georgetown County area near the Waccamaw river. From the article, it seems that does not mean they are albino.

We were so fortunate this Spring and early Fall to see a white deer on our evening stroll of our northwest pasture. It looked like a yearling and was usually accompanied by a doe (probably it's mother) and a young fawn. We saw it several times a week for several weeks and were naturally awestruck each time. About 4 weeks ago this group evidently joined another group of deer and we saw them leaving the area. They were all running and jumping the fence and the little white deer stopped in the middle of the running and stared at us for the longest time. Of course we were frozen in our tracks as this little deer had always run off whenever it spotted us. I like to think it was it's way of saying goodbye to us. I am 62 years old and this is one of the unforgetable moments of my life. I hope they return someday...unfortunately in our state they are not protected.

Thank you BDunn...it still puts a lump in my throat when I think about it. I continue to look for it everyday when I take my walk and I imagine I always will. Maybe next Spring they will return...I sure hope so. :0)
