That is - MY Dave - not Da Dave.
For those who don't know MY Dave had! two heart attacks this weekend. (Won't bore you with the details). Anyway, he had the angioplasty on Monday and they inserted a stent in one of the arteries. And the plan is, he comes home this afternoon.
Dave is not impressed by the cardiac menu at the hospital -but get this! He is now VERY concerned about MY health and is warning me that I must be much more active, start doing cario-vascular exercise and watch MY diet. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing, but I dutifully looked very concerned and grateful for this "new" information, and told Dave that clearly we would have to take very good care of each other.
Isn't that just like some men? - won't act concerned about their own health - but are prepared to make sacrifices, even major life style changes for YOURS. lol Well, whatever works, that's what we gotta do to make sure HE makes the necessary changes as well :-)
Dave's coming home!
I'm SO glad to hear the good news.
Congrats! That is exciting news!
Michaela:
I am SO, SO happy!
Getting, and staying, healthy for BOTH of you will make a huge difference. It's also a rather difficult process ... the getting used to eating right and exercising on a daily basis, I mean.
I am here in your corner, if you need a cheering squad.
Great news Michaela! But let's not generalize about men, please!
Awesome news Michaela!!! Glad he's doing better and you both have something very special to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!
Welcome home David!!!!!!!
I am so happy that he is coming home so soon!!! I am glad he is feeling better - he must be if he is lecturing you on your health LOL!! Men are funny that way aren't they?
I know you must be thrilled to have him home after that scare (((hugs)))
Again with the men comments! Must say a lot about Canadian men. This man works out all the time, eats a healthy diet and can still beat his 20 year old nephew in a sprint! Oh, and 11 % body fat. Hee hee.
Michaela, so glad to hear he is doing well and coming home. I guess it will make you BOTH very health conscious. Men are funny, except Victor. He is amusing LOL.
Seandor, Having your DH being home after his HA is great. I think you both should start double digging more flower beds. That is great for your health. Also lots of trips to nurseries and botanical garden to do some power walking and maybe some power buying so you can take the loot home and do some more digging and planting in all those new beds. What about a push mower or maybe you will have so many new beds that you wont have any lawn left. I built a stream that took many tons of rocks and lots of digging. Also compost bins take lots of energy to rotate all that stuff. Gardening makes for good health. Truly , I wish you both lots of dirt on your hands and good health. Patti
Thanks Jan. Worried you were going to say 'bemusing'!
Welcome Home Dave! Hope you both have a nice relaxing evening together!
So glad he'll be home again. Build a compost pile together. It's a major cardio work out in turning the contents!
Michaela - so glad that Dave is home!! Both of you take care of yourselves and follow doctor's orders. Doing it together will make it easier for both of you!! The family that diets and exercises together ........ (can't remember what comes next - having a senior moment)!! Anyway it's something good that must come out of it!! Eleanor
yay - good news, and a relief i am sure!
BTW, i think victor is funny.
(and humorous as well.)
I think Victor is terrific! But David is my beloved . . . and boy, will I be making plans to keep him active in the gardens! Even the doctors think it is good exercise!
Edited to say: "Thanks everyone for your support." It REALLY does help :)

Michaela, glad to hear David is home!! Hope he continues to do well.
In my home, I'm a nurse, but DH is the one who is always after me about my health! Encourages me to call the doc, asks how an appt went, tells me to take a vitamin, etc. I have to try to remember to do the same with him.
A ray of hope that makes you glad, when some good news comes out of bad...
Good going, Dave. Just be careful when she puts you to work in her garden. A few years back, I stepped on a loose stone and broke my leg!
(quote: Isn't that just like some men? - won't act concerned about their own health - but are prepared to make sacrifices, even major life style changes for YOURS.) ...now, now, Michaela, some women would flip to have a man willing to make sacrifices for them...whatever the reason!
You are sooooo right Don! Your a lucky women Michaela!
Lucky????? No - smart! I was smart enough to marry the best guy in the world (well best for me!)
I agree with you, Michaela. Not luck but good fortune, fate, kismet. I generally reserve the word "lucky" for those with winning lottery tickets or taking a lucky guess but many people just use it in the "good for you" sense. Good idea for a new thread!
true!
Regular aerobic exercise is the key. Go for walks together. He has to start slow if he has not been active. Increase speed / distance gradually. He will feel much better overall and wish he started earlier!
Gee . . . I was going to suggest dancing in the dark! heeheehee
Sounds good to me! heeheehee
That's a great song and a great activity! Better make sure he's ready!
and don't forget to bring you camera on those walks - you never know what photo-ops you will encounter!
And for the dancing in the dark too!! Hee hee.
Dave is not impressed by the cardiac menu at the hospital -but get this! He is now VERY concerned about MY health and is warning me that I must be much more active, start doing cario-vascular exercise and watch MY diet.
Michaela, I am thrilled that your Dave is home and feeling well--and that he is now taking charge of his (and other people's--meaning your) cardiac health. My husband also had a wake-up call thirteen years ago; ended up having two stents. He's fine now, and does things he NEVER bothered about before: watches his diet, exercises regularly, takes his statins to control cholesterol.
I don't think it's necessarily a guy-thing, but I do think it's a personality-thing: the need to feel in control. Give a person with this "need" a program to follow, and that person will go for it. (Notice, Victor, I am avoiding any gender-specific pronouns!)
I think Dancing in the Dark is a fine activity.
Good news, Michaela, we're all so happy, and relieved!
Victor, you sound like a stud! Do you have a photo of your washboard abs for us ladies?
Is it like the washboard used to try and scrub all the gardening dirt off clothes?! Now that would be a good cardio workout!!!
My wife makes me use the washboard for the laundry!
I am reading your comments and laughing out loud. Poor Davd is sitting on the couch totally clueless about this conversation, especially the dancing in the dark - and the photo ops. lol.
Well, we are off to Costco to buy low cholesterol grub. I don't think the marking is going to be completed this term - the students will probably take "I" for incomplete - only because I need to complete the marking!
Penny for your thoughts, Amy!
hmm.
all i said was:
please don't say "grub".
Oooops - sorry, won't mention "grub" again :-)
I love the weekly hunting and gathering at the local hunting grounds. It's amazing to me how the high cal, high sodium, high everything except health stuff is so brightly colored and most prominently displayed.
Which is precisely why I call my weekly grocery shopping trip my foray to hunt and gather. It takes time to eat healthy! *sheesh*
