Whew. It's always scary to watch the trees sway around here, but Woodinville made it out without anything more than a 30-second power loss. Thank you PSE for all those improvements.
How about you guys on the islands and up farther north? Sounds like you got hit pretty hard.
This is from the local ABC news station here:
"This storm's central pressure was on par with the December 2006 storm and actually stronger than the Inauguration Day storm of 1993. However, it made landfall much farther north, and that spared the Puget Sound area the bulk of the wind. This storm was the strongest storm to hit the coast and Northern Interior since the December 2006 storm. In fact, Bellingham, Friday Harbor and Hoquiam had stronger winds with this storm than the December '06 storm."
Got my fingers crossed that nobody had any damage.
Kathy
Surviving the storm
It was quite different from last year. It hit with hard gusts with breaks. My large potted Monterrey Cypress got knocked over on the porch. The news said quite a few had the power knocked out on the island and up the coast. I was wondering if we'll have stronger winds than last year. I guess we'll find out. The news for Victoria showed quite strong winds.
I was thinking about you, growin, as they said the storm was centered up thereabouts and was worse than the 1993 storm. Glad you came through it okay!!
There's still people without power but it really didn't seem so bad. I'm next to a heritage apartment so I didn't get much from yesterday or anything last year. Thanks for thinkin' of me. ;-)
Well, the news show 150,000 without power and the news is showing all kinds of damage from trees. I guess living around all these highrises has its benefits. Looks like quite a bit of damage elsewhere.
Happy to hear you are all fine,
The only bad thing that happened was, going to work the wind is blowing and pouring down rain, and in the worst spot around, no lights, can't see to pull off the road, My drivers side wiper comes off. I finally fine a place to pull over. Thank God i didn't lose it stuck it back on the best i could and only used it when I needed it till i got on the ferry. I always have zip ties I my pocket for work, so I zip tied them they will never come off again, My DH thought it was funny but very smart, and of course they are different colors, makes it look funny. Other than that all was well.
Tills
Mary -
What a time for your wiper to come off!! Good thinking on the zipties. I think I'll add that to my car emergency kit.

Hope the power is back on for everybody up there. I'm still amazed that we didn't really lose power here.
The neighbors must have spent a fortune having all their trees trimmed today. The company started at 8:00 and didn't leave until it was dark. I know they worked on at least 4 big firs and then took out the leaner cottonwood (from my tree falling around it) and cut up most of the base of my fir that fell on their property. I'm feeling bad about that, but I don't have a chain saw big enough to cut it beyond where we had cut it and can't afford right now to have anybody do anything about it. I'm hoping they got a good deal - maybe so as the tree trimming company was already in the neighborhood, or so they said.
So we all have lots of unsplit rounds - most of them too big for me to lift. Argh.
This was around 4:40 AM had to ketch the 5:10 boat to get to work.
I carry allot of things, in my car. Wind up flash light, tape, tools. I even have a bonnet for my windshield when it freezes, no scraping. and many other things, like a Boy scout all ways prepared, of a Camp Fire Girl ( which I was ) find something and make it work.
Mary-
I love zip ties! Great idea for the wiper. Glad to hear that you made it home safely! Rachel
Wasnt going home, Had to be to work and could not be late, was opening manager. Wish I was going home then it would not have bother me so much, and yes thank goodness for zip ties, carry more of all sizes for now on.
Mary,
I sincerely hope that work will get better for you.
Has anyone heard from Murmur lately? She must be busy with her grandma duties!
I heard from her the other day. She is going into town a lot.
The storm wasn't that bad here. It was more huge gusts from time to time but not really too many. We were without power for a while but it was very early morning when everyone was still in bed. By the time we got up, it was back on. I do need to get working on that generator. I can't take another week without heat like we did last November!
Gwen
I am so glad we bought ours last year, we where without for 7 days, and I am on a well so no water no power. so now that we got it my DH will not put in the shed he keeps it in the house under lock and key, and all the cords at the ready. even tho I have the power inside, I still have no water, except for the creek pump, and fill the bathtubs, 5 gal buckets ready, stock pots ready to boil on the wood stove, have water.
LOL my life in the woods.
but love every minute of it, no city life, for me couldnt handle it.
