Hey ladies, another will this grow here question

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Do any of you have Mandavilla come back in the spring for you?

Can you just dig up the tubers and put them in a cool, dark spot untill the spring?

Any experiences with these in the low country? I'm thinking of swapping out my MG's for Mandavilla but my MG's grow like mad so I'm not sure if I want to pull those out.

The jury is out. I have found them to be tender in general. More times than not they croak on me. But, others in this area have had excellent luck in keeping them over the winter. So......

However, if keeping the MG's is the question I say dump them as they are too invasive here.

I know your a MG lover. LOL. My MG's are surrounded by yard and don't set seed so they really can't get out of hand. I could put the MG's back where I planted the Balsa wood and mimosa. The MG's would look nice with the virginia creeper too. I let some mint grow wild under all this and it's filling in nicely.

LOL You forgot the Smilax vine.......

My neighbor's MG, one of those beautiful perennial blue ones, is all over my yard; it is a hybrid but it spreads by runners.

I have seeds for these next year. I'm thinking this would be good for those who like MG's but are afraid of them going nuts. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/52996/

Probably be two years to really figure out what the MG bushes will do around here but I'm sure they aren't as invasive as the vines.

Have seeds for these too. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/60783/ Another experiment.

This one worries me. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/150672/ I'm giving it a try next spring. I think it can get really big and I'm planting it in the ground. Safety wise I don't believe it can take cold weather at all so it can only get so out of hand. If need be http://www.flameengineering.com/Red_Dragon_Propane_Torch_K.html

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/63662/ is another I'm trying.

I have not grown any of those; let us know how they work out. :-))))

Every mandevilla I've tried has given up the ghost over the winter except one. It was in an area that was protected from wind and got lots of winter sun. Heavily mulched under pine straw. May have been just luck. BUT, although it survived the winter, it didn't do very well through the summer.

I dug it out and potted it up and am trying to over winter it in my makeshift greenhouse. If it does well, I'll let ya know. :)
If it dies, I'll take a deep breath and give up on mandevilla.

I planted 3 mandevilla the spring before last. I expected them to die during the winter. Two of them, however, are still there. They're blooming this very instant.
