Really nice "taters"!!!

They are delicious too. But I have to agree with Farmerdill they can grow large tubers that are sometimes twisted in weired shapes.
I plan to try a couple different varieties next year. to see if I can get more uniform tubers.

Where did you get the "starts"?

Hornick, IA(Zone 4b)

I originally bought the plants at a farm home store. Every spring they all get in the act of selling nursery items. The the labels it showed that they came from Bonnie's in Alabama. I have been saving a few tubers and letting them sprout. And rooting them in wet sand in the spring. I usually get enough starts to share with other gardening friends at the RU in May.
I had trouble getting my comment to show up in the plant file. My intent there was to identify with Farmerdill that under the right conditions, the tubers can be rather large and sometimes be odd shaped and not very uniform.
But when It is just the two of us, we don't really care if they are misshaped. It don't affect the taste any.

I would love to start some of this variety. Do I have anything you'd like. I wonder? Are you into flowers or veggies?

Hornick, IA(Zone 4b)

We are in the process of trying to do some flowers too. But primarily into veggies. as I like to grow as many of our own as possible. and put them up to last the winter. Would you like starting your own slips, or have me send you some. You would need to let me know your planting time though as I am sure that I would plant later than you. I usually start getting some sprouts on some of the tubers in Feb. and then keep increasing the size of the pots untill I can plant them outside. But for a mail out, it would be best to get them started to root. and wrap them in a wet paper towel and put in a ziploc bag and pick the best weather and send. I would be happy to send you some that way. I will try keep you in mind when they start sprouting. just Dmail me close to when you are ready. By then we can probably work out a fair exchange.
Deer rabbits and wood chucks love them so if you have them using your garden as their delicacies or desert table. you may need to use deer and rabbit repellant on them till they get going good. several people have told me that the critters got them. The deer haven't bothered me but I have had wood chucks and rabbits geting into them.

The only thing I have around is rabbits, but the dogs chase them off. I'll D-mail you in the spring, thanks!
