Marinate the bacon?

Friends just returned from a trip up/down the Oregon coast. They were raving about some bacon they had in a Newport, Oregon restaurant. The waitres told them they marinated their bacon in a concoction they made that included cayenne pepper. Have any of wonderful cooks ever heard of such a thing? Or a recipe for this? I will be checking google but thought maybe you already had an answer.
