I dug & recieved a computer paper box full of Canna's from a "FreeCycler" (freecycle.org) - do I store them inside my home or in my garage - in zone 5 it can get down to -15 or so this winter, right now they're in my house in the computer box (I've already cleaned all of them from the dirt & mud - oh what a messy job that was!)
Received Canna rizomes , now how to store in zone 5?
my dad lives just south of kansas city and he stores his in the basement. the garage would be too cold.
Thanks Len, I'll keep them in the house!
We always cleaned them off and buried them in a dishpan filled with peat moss. We also kept them in the cellar.
Thanks Mittsy - I'll have to rely on my pantry (no cellar here) but they'll be safe all tucked away in the computor paper box
Just check them periodically to make sure there isn't any rot or that they aren't shriveled up. If they look shriveled then you can spray them lightly with a spray bottle of water. I usually store mine in peat moss in the basement. This year I am trying a new method of storing them with some of their dirt attached to the roots in the basement in cardboard boxes. Will see how it works out.

sedum37, you will probably get fungus. They should be cleaned and dried well then put in the peat moss.
