I am not quite sure where this thread belongs but it is a treat to see what this nursery has to offer in the way of plants. They are located in Seguin, Texas about 30 minutes out of San Antonio.
A giant of a lipstick plant basket
Come along with me to Green Gate Nursery of tropicals
"This basket made its' way to my car, also!"
That's happened to me once or twice...
Lovely pictures. Your un-named plant looks like a Jewel Orchid. One of the Anoectochilus maybe?
Thanks for sharing!
thanks.
You are right!
I couldn't think of Jewel Orchid!!
You live in an even better climate than me! I still have to watch for a couple of good freezes each year............
Gail,
In the third picture from the bottom, I believe the plant you have is Haemaria discolor (Ludisia discolor) - jewel orchid. It's a beautiful plant!
I just love the jewel orchid and she is a big one for sure!
Can we live there? love, julie
I would love to live in this greenhouse, too! Just give me a cot and my camera for the memories of each and every bloom or even a new leaf!
Ah, yes, I could spend a lot of time there!
The 15th photo (another pretty cactus and hoya basket mixed) has what looks to me like Cryptanthus (a terrestrial Bromeliad) in it, and I'm wondering how they grow them so BIG!
Do you suppose it's all the overhead light they receive as opposed to the lighting they get from mostly the sides in our homes?
Nice score on that mixed hoya basket - beautiful - and a gorgeous jewel orchid you got, too!! I also have brought them home!
Mine (jewel orchid) stays small and doesn't seem to want to do 'anything'....anyone have any advice?

Nan, you have to remember that we live in a very temperate climate. She probably doesn't even have heat in that big 4 bay greenhouse. They have located it behind the main office building to protect it from the north winds, also.
That overhead light from the sun (they do have a shade cloth over the greenhouses) is so much stronger than anything we could give them in the way of artificial light. (the bromeliad you are talking about)
I only wish I had the jewel orchid, but I didn't have room in my car for anything but hoyas and the african violets and streps.
BTW, that av you got from me I just discovered yesterday is 'Rob's Slap Happy' for sure. I found a big mother plant with the exact foliage and she had a name on her. Is yours still alive? (LOL)
Yeah, I need some skylights, you know?!!
I naturally (!) assumed you bought the jewel orchid - (*I* would have!)
Hey, thanks for the ID! I'll tag it when I get home tonight.
Indeed, it's still alive, has only lost a leaf or two, and is looking good!
The Strep is a little stressed, but I think it's bouncing back after settling in
I wanted everything I saw but the nursery is only 2 hours from me so I can go back in the early spring for lots................
I hope your strep makes it.............don't overwater her..............
gessiegail, I just found this thread and have so enjoyed "going shopping with you"! Just checked the Orchid and Begonia forums to make sure I didn't miss any. Thanks for sharing :)
glad you enjoyed it. I did post on the hoya forum, also...
Have a great day.
