Check this google map out. Mike Quinn, our Texas Entomologist created this map to show the butterfly garden/site locations in our area.
Way Cool!!! I live here and didn't realize we had so many places to go butterflying!!! I had fun clicking on the markers :o)

Rio Grande Valley Butterfly Trail (south Texas)
That is so neat!
That is so cool - thanks for posting the map. I'm coming your way in December on a birding trip and will definitely be watching for them as well as for birds.
Wow. There are a lot of opportunity for butterfly-ing posted onto your regional map! That will keep you busy for years!
TPP...What a neat tool he created. I do admit I had to laugh when I was looking at Edinburg area and saw that Burger King was lilsted! LOL! Also the NABA looked like a plowed field, you could even see the direction of the rows. Do they do that each year and sow seeds?
Ha Ha!!! That Burger King is famous for it's "Pixie Tree". It has a large Guamuchil tree planted across the drive through window. That is the larval host for the Red Bordered Pixie butterfly.
The rows you saw near NABA are from a crop field that is in front of it. The park itself is fenced and filled with native gardens. It has a canal running through a wooden area and the back fields are being revegetated with native trees...no rows back there. The land - 70 acres (including that crop area) was donated - that photo is several years old I think...as the park has filled in a bit. It's still mainly that little white building with a couple of trails near the middle right :o) Lots of new U.S. records have been photographed in that small area.
I love browsing that link...and zooming in to see what everything looks like from the satellite view :o)

It is a pretty cool tool!! We downloaded the Google Earth that lets you do 3-D. You can turn it, go around buildings almost with it. Look from the east then from the west. It also had a more up to date picture of my house anyway than the one taken here of my house.
Falling asleep....got to go to bed!
