Well This I don't guess deserves a thread of it's own I'm still not sure what is the proper way to do this but still I wanted to show you a seedling that did not look like either of it's parents. I liked it so much I named it after my oldest Granddaughter. Bethany Joy

Pretty hibiscus and the name is nice, too.
Wow!!! Hard to believe the parents. I would have expected something completely different but here is where the genetics take over. Very nice Gene!!!
Very nice Gene! That's a really pretty one.
Beautiful Geneatkatytx ! I am really getting lured in by the beauty of these Tropical Hibiscus'. I have just purchased my first 3 rooted cuttings and my fingers are crossed that they will oneday be posted here next to the avid hibiscus growers like yourself. If you don't mind me asking...your leaves are so lush, do you keep your hibiscus in full sun or part shade? Also what do you spray yours with for pests, I recently just found whitefly on my little cuttings and sprayed them every 3 days in the morning with murphys/ivory/water but the leaves look a little stressed by it....but then again they are only 1month old so maybe they are just adjusting themselves. I do have a common hibiscus which I never spray and it never gets pests or anything but these seem a little more picky.
I can only wish that oneday I have blooms as beautiful as yours Geneatkatytx.

Thanks Samantha and all
I guess I've been using everything over this summer. With the advise of Barry Schlueter I am now using Fish Oil. For now I'm using a product called Organizide but it is basically just fish oil. I don't think I was using it often enough but I am now trying to use it about every 10 days and I think it is going to make a real difference. I always seek the advice of Barry when I'm not sure what to do and in my opinion there is no one better to ask.
As far as where I keep my plants, I try to get them as much sun as possible until the real heat of the day and here in Katy that is about noon. I have some large oak trees and they supply my shade in the afternoon.Good luck with your plants and just keep asking questions thats the way to learn. Take care

Wow - I love the look of Bethany Joy! Nice job - it's funny it wouldn't be the coloring you'd expect from those vibrant colored parent. How long did it take before it bloomed for you? I just received some interesting crosses (seeds) from AHS & wondered how long it would take to actually get a flower on it. If you decide to trim Bethany Joy feel free to send a cutting down my way so I can tell you how well it does here in good ole Oklahoma! :)
I think it's so random that from what I have been told by others is anywhere from 10 to 24 months and some times longer or even in some cases I've heard not so long. Mine take longer than most because I'll prune mine after the first year if it's looking leggy and not showing any signs of blooming. I haven't done that much hybredizeing and there are others here that can give you a better answer I'm sure. One thing is it's always worth the wait.
gene, nice subtle colors. Never know what your'e gonna get when they bloom....makes it fun that way.
