Alocasia 'Stingray'

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Here is my 'Stingray'. Cool shaped alocasia. I'm guessing this is a mutation of some other? I know this popped up semi-recently and several people here in this forum had them. Anyone know anything about it's origins? It's hard to get a good overall shot due to where it is in my garden - I can't get far enough away and it not be blocked by something else in the jungle.

It's seemingly easy to grow. So far about 4' or so high (fairly close to 5' if you include the long "tail").

Here's a pic of the stem. Sorry for the flash, but it wasn't enough light this morning yet when I was out there with my camera. There's not really any yellow in the stem, that's the flast, but there is the purplish/reddish hue that you see.

Well, AuntB, I finally broke down and got a 'Stingray' for myself. It is about 3 feet tall and there are two in the pot. You know, as an Alocasia hybridizer, it's my duty to investigate these things, so I was obligated to obtain one! Tough job, but someone's got to do it. BTW, the plant costs like smoke; I got a 3 gallon and it was $35!

So maybe by the BEF, I'll have more. It does produce corms, as I saw a small one taken out of a pot that the fellow who sold me mine had. Of course, if it blooms before then . . .

Good to see you back on; did you get all your plants snug and warm for the winter?

Just HAD to, didn't ya LariAnn? I'll try to hold out till then. Yes, I have them warm and under lights, still not snug.. I keep moving things around, an attempt to stop the constant whining about not being outside. lol All my EE's growing or dormant seem to be the best behaved at this point. I've dealt with mealy bug on 1 brugmansia and constantly looking for mite evidence.. I've a second pup coming up on my C. Thai Giant, the hibiscus blooms are getting smaller and fewer, cuttings rooting, new leaves on Alo's and lots of amusing things keep me puttering around down there. I have 1 amaryllis still outside and some bulbs on the patio table, amorph and 2 pots of caldiums to dig...they will come all come in tonight, it's getting down to the mid 20's...I hope things have slowed a bit at work, and at home, so I've taken a moment today to TRY to catch up.

Sandra, hot? Where's Ripley? Near the coast? How close to Gulfport? Yep, I need to find a job there, so I can move where it is hot in winter.

This morning it is 44, it was a warm spell before a cold front coming in. I am about 6 hours from the coast.
I am 90 miles south of Memphis TN
We have already had a killing freeze a couple of weeks ago.
Sometimes in Jan and Feb we have 80 degree days, the weather men in Memphis have a saying. If you don't like the weather in Memphis, just wait, it will change soon--lol
