Since the past two summers in the region West of the Cascades have been so different temperature-wise, I thought it would be very helpful to know which tomatoes have been solid performers for you.
Areas of consideration are:
fruit production, flavour, disease resistance, volume of harvest, best for cooking or eating fresh and whether they grew in-ground or in a container.
Secondly - was there a particular variety that did well BOTH years?
This information could be utilized by many, but especially by those who have limited areas in which to garden: no space to "trial" different varieties.
I wanted to pass this on to people who are just starting their gardening endeavours, or who are living in condos or apartments, with limited space.
Thanks so much for your input!
Which Tomatoes have performed best for you?
Hey Katye -
I was looking at Renee's Garden Seeds at a recommendation from someone on the Cottage Garden Forum and was interested to see that Renee's sister lives in Seattle. She might be a good resource for information about tomatoes that do well around here.

I have always used " Early Girl" does very well in my area, I tried to grow seeds just didn't work, I got no tomatoes, with Early girl I always have them. And I buy gallon plants at the nursery. Don't forget to watch Daves video on Tomatoes.
Things I never knew.
Katye, the ones I grow here, are 60 days. but here in the NW it can be more. but I get literally hundreds. I still have a turkey pan full of ripening Tomatos, one is a Grape Tomato, the other is called Jelly Bean. I have to start them from seed because they aren't sold here. also, I've never had any disease problems, like some that are offered at the nurseries here. Jim
I just tried some organic plant starts this year and they performed very, very well. Better than the standard ones, in fact. One of them was the tomato 'Green Zebra', which was a good grower and handled our lackluster summer without missing a beat. It took until Sept. for me to have any ripe tomatoes, but it produced a good number of them anyway. Everyone I gave them to found them interesting and tasty, too.
