Mountain Magic is blooming

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Caren, last November you sent me a Mountain Magic cutting. Look at her now! She spent most of this year growing and didn't really take off until she sent roots out of the pot and into the ground. Her first two flowers were so badly damaged by grasshoppers (You can still see them damage to the leaves.) that I was ashamed to photograph them. This is her second set of blooms — four of them. They are gorgeous. So dark, especially the flower in the back. She has an exotic fragrance. Difficult to describe. It's windy outside so I had to stick my nose into the flower to smell it. Thank you again. The photo doesn't do her justice. The blooms are darker.

This is a photo of her best bloom. You can see some of the damage done by grasshoppers on the leaves.

This is her darkest bloom. Slight damage to the flower, but I love the color.

Ok, you guys! Now I gotta have some of these!! They are so beautiful!

Mountain Magic is certainly beautiful. You are lucky to grow it. It is so cool when the pink shows all the way up to the calyx. I love that in a hybrid.

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

I love that one. I agree with the color going all the way up=good thing:)

The color going all the way up the calx is one of the reasons I love this Brug. The next thing I have to figure out is how to remove the pot to dig the rest of her roots out of the ground. The easiest thing to do would be to cut the roots just below the pot, but I don't want to lose her. I've lost Brugs doing this before.

bettydee do you have any other brugs that do well in this area? so far mm and painted lady are the only two I have found that seem to do well here.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice.....MM is a great brug. I've enjoyed her a lot.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is a few that do well in our area of N.E. Texas. Serendipity, Axelrose, KBS, Isabella, Wild and Crazy, Adeline, KBS, Pink Beauty, Cotton Candy and Georgia Peach.

Lovely plant there Betty... a beautiful flower..
I too love Mountain Magic... well I've a cross of MM and Miss Emily Mckinzie..it made lovely pink flowers... first year from seed... a number of flushes so far... the seedling made it's "Y" about an inch out of the ground.. Two major trunks...you almost can't see under to the stalk.. that trait alone would be a good addition to any brug line... Gordon

Yes, she is certainly yummy! Gorgeous colour!

Ted, Creamsickle ( one of my favorites), Audrey Hepburn, Georgia Peach, Maya, an unknow that was sold to me as Silver Dawn, Dr. Seuss, Charles Grimaldi, Rosemond, Spring Peach. All have grown well here. They get morning sun and afternoon shade. Jean Pasko finally took off after months of sulking and dropping all of the buds from several flushes. Creamsickle blooms during the summer when others stop. One of the reasons, I like her is that the flushes are spread out enough that she has a few blooms almost continuously. She remains a creamy white color and has colored up only once.

Gordon, has your seedling bloomed yet? Was the growing tip ever damaged? I remember reading a thread that discussed multi-trunked seedlings which is usually the result of damage to the initial growing tip. It would be great if your wasn't a result of damage.
