Can hardly wait till Wednesday. For those that don't know. DH and I are driving to Houston to pick up Shari and JB, go to RJ's for a tour and lunch and Jeanne will meet us. Shari has a layover from aroun 9:30 till about 4 something. A mere 228 miles to the airport. But, hey, that's a lot closer than Kwaj.

I went to a tropical workshop around then, and I think there were alot of gingers there for sale....must have been!

Hi Liz,
I went to the work shop during the day. Palm trees, spider lilys, caudiforum or however it's spelled. I didn't know there was one at night...I saw a van in the parking lot that had I.D. of Gingers. I suspected someone of major gingernous was there to sell at the sale. I bought a couple of aroids.

I know on Saturday Tom Woods gave a talk on Globba gingers. Tom goes around the world and collects gingers from their native habitats. I would love to go to Costa Rica or Asia and actually see gingers grwoing in the wild, it must be awesome! My favorite ginger is Costus barbatus, so Costa Rica would be my first choice.

That's right...Globba gingers ..he actually did know quite a bit.
I love Costa Rica. I could move there. My favorite place so far is Quepos - Manuel Antonio next to the game reserve...there are tons of gingers!

So I can add you to the list of people I have spoken to who has been to Costa Rica AND has only wonderful things to say about it. I swear half of the people I meet have been there; of course everyone who HAS been there loves it. I recently met some very nice people who have 80 acres in Costa Rica and sent me pictures of 2 of the water fall on the property, it is beautiful!!! I would move there in a heart beat!!!!!!!

You sure can, been there several times, and interestingly went to tour some guys private property with waterfalls. They also rigged rope through the tree tops for a tree top tour.
I tell ya, I was very envious of having a private jungle and waterfall. It was my idea of heaven.

OMG...did the property belong to a guy named Patrick? I just met him and his girlfriend about a week and half ago, in West Palm at Mounts Botanical Gardens. He emailed me photos of the 2 waterfalls, gorgeous!!!

We spent 2 months in Costa Rica on our boat...rented a car and drove the midlands...didn't get to the W. Coast. Spent 5 days in Monteverde and actually SAW a Quetzal - be still my heart!!!! Lovely country!!!

hmmm..I don't remember their names. I know they had gotten the property when it was still very economical. You know, Costa Rica pays land owners dividends if they don't develop the property!
I saw a quetzal on a hike through the game reserve, was told it was a rare sighting.
Rescued a sloth from a phone poll. Guess they come down to the ground once a month to do their business, we were sitting at restaurant having breakfast, and this teenager sloth was trying to get back up into the tree via the phone booth, and having a heck of a time. If you grab them in the middle of their back, you can just relocate them safely for both parties.!

One of the aspects that amazed me about Costa Rica (and this was 1995) was the LACK of rubbish in the country. We saw ONE (#1) discarded carton of milk on the roadside and that was IT!!! Amazing!!!

That is so funny! I thought the same thing when I took the bus to Quepos, it isn't a third world country. Neat, tidy homes, and no crap, junk or trash anywhere..was wonderful
Agree on Costa Rica - wonderful place to visit. We had just a glimpse of a quetzal at Monteverde - lovely creature. Howler monkeys in the wee hours - we loved it all. :-) Friendly people, too!
