my fat cat is peeing on the bathroom floor

My beloved eight year old cat Cricket has been peeing on the bathroom floor, even though there is a box of litter right there. She does use the litter most of the time; then inexplicably she uses the floor. What should i use to wash the floor. Is there anything that can discourage her? Any advice at all?
