Hey y'all,
What are some of your fave nurseries in the Austin area? I'm considering a gift card to a nursery for my brother and sister-in-law for Christmas. They just bought their first home together this year and are working on the landscaping. Thought it might help them out.
Thanks!!
Question for you Austinites
Depends on what they like. For perennials, vegetables, native stuff...I'd recommend The Natural Gardener. For all the above, plus more exotic things like tropicals....The Great Outdoors.
Barton Springs Nursery carries all the above also. And there's Pots and Plants...a little expensive, but has good plants. 'It's a Jungle' specializes in orchids and roses. And...'It's About Thyme' is another all-round type nursery.
You have a very lucky brother to get such a nice gift!
Thanks so much for the good info!! I had visited the It's About Thyme site, and it looks pretty neat. I'll check out the others, as well.
Believe me, I'm a lucky sister. Although I'm far from an expert and always learning, I hope they enjoy gardening as much as my husband and I do ;)
You might want to check out what area of Austin their house is in so it will be easy for them to get to. It's About Thyme is a little out of the way, especially if you don't live in south Austin.Natural Gardener is south too, but easier to access from south Mopac.Barton Springs Nursery also south between south Mopac and Loop 360.Great Outdoors is closer to I35 than the others.
I found that Barton Springs and Natural Gardener had really great people to answer newcomers' questions..
