WANTED: Named Perennials, All Kinds TRADE: Botanical Art

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I did this same trade (http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/571520/) a couple of years ago when we bought our first house and it was quite popular and allowed us to get a great start on our new yard (much appreciation to everyone who participated). We have just made an offer on our second house and I would like to offer my services again for trade. If anyone is interested in trading a big box of named perennials (shade or sun, zone-5-hardy) for an original pen & ink illustration of their favorite flower or plant let me know. The link to my previous trade posted above has additional samples of my work that were completed for trade on D.G.

I would like to do these drawings over the winter months and then receive plants in the spring.

NOTE: You will need to provide me with a suitable photo for the drawing.

I'm not sure how to remove an image after it has been posted. The image above is not very good. Here is a better sample of one of the drawings I did for a DG member in my last trade.

Wow, nice drawings!

what exactly do you mean by 'named perennials'.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

sending you mail

I can definitely do a box of perennials in the spring. Do you like iris? All named of course, but will really need to be divided next year. If not, then I have other things, too.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

By 'named perennials', I mean identifiable species or varieties. I'm a bit of a plant collector (I keep a database of every plant I collect) and it drives me crazy to have a plant that I love, but cannot identify. For example I have a really cool wild ginger (Asarum) that somebody sent me but I don't know what species or cultivar it is. It is very difficult to identify Asarums...especially cultivars. Iris and daylily varieties are the same way.

How many plants would you consider a box to be, more or less? Or maybe I should ask how big of a box?

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

It takes me quite a bit of time to do a drawing...and originals can sell for a couple hundred dollars. I'm hoping for something between a copy-paper box and an apple box...(preferably an apple box of course ;-).

EDIT: I was looking at an apple box last night and thinking that is an awful lot of plants. I think that 12-16 varieties (depending on size) would be fine.

I can give a Great recommendation for Wills' work.He did a beautiful drawing of an iris for me. It made a wonderful present for my sister.
Looking at plants now!
I have the Red Dragon knotweed-will have to see how well the plant gets through the winter and divides (currently about 3 foot tall)

Sending a Dmail. Beautiful work!

Apple box, of course-is there any other kind here in WA? ;)

New Bern, NC(Zone 8a)

Hi Will & Alisse,

I was going to write you back today and tell you that if you want plants in the Spring for your new house just let me know.

I see you mentioned asarum. Did I send that to you? I sent out a few asarum and didn't go back to get the proper name. I went back through years of emails where I sent it off for identification to Plant Delights Nursery and here it is. It happens to be on their website. http://www.plantdelights.com/Catalog/Current/Detail/07653.html

I am taken back by your artistic talents. You are very gifted. Let me know if you have an interest in my plants. Thanks again for the nice plants that you sent to me!

Those are stunning! How big are the drawings?

For any one that is still interested, I think I asked for too many plants. I was looking at an apple box last night and thinking that is a lot of plants...especially for the size we trade on DG. I would be willing to do a drawing for about 12-16 plants depending on size regardless of box size. Let me know if you are interested.

Milo, ME(Zone 4a)

do you draw -people or just plants?or a house?

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I can do a house no problem (I'm an architect by profession)...but they usually quite a bit more time than a botanical illustration. I'm a little hesitant to do a person...that is not my area of expertise.

Milo, ME(Zone 4a)

well i would do this for a hand draw of my home i can send a picture want me to email you what i will have aval for trade next year to see if your interested?

Edgartown, MA(Zone 7a)

Will,
I would be very interested in a drawing of my home but to be honest I have a front entry garden that would be part of the picture, much like a necklace in a portrait. Understanding this will entail more work I would be happy to forward more quantity or quality of plants which ever you would prefer. kt

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Will, I'm in.
I actually like your 1st photos better than the 2nd. So obviously you can just send me one of your rejects!

I can send you hellebores, strawberries, irises, maybe heuchera, lots of other stuff.
