Storing Elephant Ears?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I was gifted with several EE and am not sure how to store them over winter. One was the woody bulb type ~ (small one in the center)

The others were not woody (is that the right term?) and pink-ish

Interesting center....

This one has green leaves with black stems. If you could clarify any of these varieties, if would be helpful.

The only one that has a name (that I know of) is this Jurassic Dark.

Any information about storing these (especially the 'softer' ones) is much appreciated.

Hi, I have some too and I just leave the bulb in the ground and they always come back bigger than before. I have one that is 8 feet high. Maybe that isn't big, but it looks it to me

Wish I could leave them but they'd literally freeze to death here.

Moby, I thought you did them pretty much like you do any bulbs you overwinter...lift them out, let them air dry and put them in sand or whatever you like to store bulbs in, and store in 50-55 degrees till time top plant...BUT I don't have to lift mine here either...so maybe someone in your zone will come along and give you advice from experience..lol

Thanks Janet. :)

Moby~ After the frost kisses my EE's, I lift them, trim the foliage, rinse off the extra soil, air dry and then overwinter them one bulb to a paper bag in the garage. In Spring, when the temps are stable, I replant the bulbs outside. Thus far, it has been very successful technique for my EE's. I go for easy as possible, on the other hand, my neighbor swears by dusting the bulbs with fungicide and covering with peat moss. Hope that helps. I love that Jurassic Dark!
