I had to cut my brugs. down because it was so cold. They were planted in the soil and much to big to bring in. When I was cutting the pieces to trade I found one seed pod out of all of the blooms still on it. If I keep it in water with the seed pod get ripe or should I just throw it out?
Seed Pod
Is this a seed pod from a hand pollinated flower on a named variety? If it is and the pod is close to ripening, I would keep it. If the pod is small and still many months from ripening, I would remove it. It will be taking energy from the cutting. Energy that the cutting needs to send out roots. I encountered that dilemma when I had to cut up a broken branch. I had a large number of cuttings so decided to keep the seed pod. It eventually shriveled up and had to be removed.
I have read in a few older threads that some pods do ripen. If you have cuttings to spare, experiment with the cutting that has the seed pod. Try rooting it and then planting the rooted cutting in a small pot or cup. If you can keep it growing, it might reach maturity even if the cutting dies later.
Thank you
