Charming P. capsularis

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

Eclipse kindly shared this Passiflora with me. It arrived this week with one bud, which I assumed would fall off. To my delight, it bloomed. An absolutely charming little flower! And it has a delicious vanilla scent. I really enjoy compact Passies like this.

Awww to cute!

That one really is nice. I like the small ones to. They get a special spot indoors at my house.
What is the name of it?

Nice pic Erick, I took some of these to Lincoln Park Conservatory (Chicago) last friday for their collection.

Lovely, now I must add to mine one in the spring!

Thank you all for the nice comments. I'm expecting lots of flowers on this one in the coming months. That was kind of you, Kyle, to share with the Conservatory. But that's just the sort of guy you are!

It smells like vanilla? Oh cool!! I thought it was gonna be like sunburst and stink lol. Now I definitely have to get one :)

The pods it sets are pretty interesting too.

I didn't know if I would be able to tell when they were "ripe" but once the seed is ready the pod bursts open.

Mine bloomed its head off and it must be self fertile because most of the other ones I have were not blooming by the time this one started its show.

angel_tree_baby, I was surprised at just how strong the scent was for such a small flower. It really was a rich, delicious vanilla smell. I am impressed.

Thank you for the interesting comments Chills. They just make the vine even more endearing to me. I hope I get to see a seedpod someday. Great picture!

Sure, if your idea of endearing is an alien looking snot-dripping pod.

Come to think of it, it was kind of cool.

Snot dripping?? Now we'll all have to have one;-)

Shhhh it sounds like the fly in the soup senerio... don't tell everyone or they will want one too:)

Are you serious Chills?... do they really get goopy?

Passionfruit are usually a little gelatinous inside, these weren't dripping much, but the first impression I got was of dripping snot (of course, reaching in to find the fruit and getting a little sticky probably heightened the feeling)

The pods were about 2 inches long and they split back like a banana being peeled, in the curled back sections were most of the gelatinous surrounded (tiny) seeds.

Now I wish I had taken a better picture of the pods.

Ha enjoying your 'frame of reference' with the snot dripping alien LOL! That is a really wierd description of the fruit/pod, now I have to see one!

My 'Victoria' passie finally has buds on it now that it has cooled off here. I just got that one this spring as a small plant. I can't wait to see her flowers...

Heres some of the pods on mine.

Yup, they're self-fertile.
