winters coming

Dripping Springs, TX(Zone 8b)

I am so dreading puting up the greenhouse this year. anyone else?

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Wish I had one to put up, ted:-)

Chattanooga, TN(Zone 7b)

mine is too small and the new one is way behind schedule.
my dining room looks like a greenhouse...does that count?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, I think it DOES count, Love2, part of my basement IS a 'greenhouse'! I want a greenhouse bigger than the house I live in. Is that wrong?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Guess I don't need a GH. I have plants in diningroom, spare room, bedroom, den, basement. All warm & bright either with sun, or florescent lights. Feel ike I'm running a florist business with watering, keeping leaves picked up and cuttings rooting!

I don't think it is wrong to dreading putting up your greenhouse. Mine is permanent and I dread having to [already did] brining in my plumies. I so enjoyed the open space with just the orchids in side during the summer. My brugs will stay outside.

Aunt Bee, would you believe this is the same brug that lost all her leave a month ago?! The tops are full of buds.

No! Really?? Look! A bloom too! You could never tell it was having an issue by looking at it now. Look at all the new growth! and on the stems, too! It sure looks content, now. I so glad for the happy ending! Love those little solar star stakes in the first pic, too! Your plants look so nice. So down there in Baton Rouge, will your brugs keep growing or go dormant outside? Gloria, I've usually kept a lot of mine upstairs in the living quarters, but usually by January, it feels like the walls are closing in, so I decided to try something different this year.

Well, here in Baton Rouge it is questionable. We don't get that cold here really or at least not for long periods except every 4 or 5 years we might get a spot of snow. However, if it dies down it should come right back. There are brugs planted at the entrance of subdivisions that are quite large and I can assure you they are not pamped like ours are but look gorgeous. Last night it got down to lower 40's and my blooms still look good, no damage at all. But then it is bright sunshine and 60's now. I hadn't realized how lucky I am with the climate until reading other's posts about the freeze already setting in, etc. I don't like the cold, give me the hot sunshine anyday.

Yes, I really like those solar lights, I have 4. I had purchased them for Christmas gifts and ended up keeping them for myself :).

Diomandd your yard is beutiful where do you have the time to care for all those potted plants? I can do it when they are in the green house but once summer gets here I cant possibly keep up with the watering But Im sure it rains more in baton than it does here.

Wellll, since you asked I’ll tell. [And thank you for the lovely compliment!] I have most, not all, hooked up to some type of sprinkler. Not the in-ground type but the ‘do it yourself’ ones. I purchased over the summer some wonderful copper flower sprinklers and they worked great. I drilled holes in the deck and just stuck them in so that I water a wider range than the small line sprinklers that I have for the hanging baskets. We fish and so are gone more than a day or two at a time and I needed some watering help for those dog days of August. I’ll include a few pics. This one is of the hostas, I have 3 of them connected in an in-ground bed.

This an iris flower that we drilled a hole in the deck to hold it, I have 3 connected on the left side of the greenhouse and I have 3 connected on the right side.

Hmmm, and a poppy. The beauty of these are they are attractive as a stand alone too. So when we are home I can just walk around the house and turn on the 'sprinklers' and enjoy their spray.

Now you know my secrets :). Here is the link for the copper flowers http://www.coppersprinklerworks.com/. And again, thank you for the compliment, Diane.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Your place IS gorgeous, Diane.. so neat and well cared for. Thanks for the link, too. I like the look of those sprinklers.. You are so sweet to share your secret with us! So when you're fishing, do you have them set up on a timer or something?

Baton Rouge, LA(Zone 8b)

Yes I have timers for them for when we are gone and during the dead heat of the summer. Otherwise I water the ones in pots. Not all are connected but I have planted things that are drought tolerant. And thank you too for the compliment. It is nice to sit outside and see the flower sprays, so enjoyable.
