Hey Rick,

Mine are just being put to bed for the winter. But is a picture from July as they want to say 'Hello'.

Why don't you post a picture of your koi?

Very pretty! I had to look up what Tosai was though. Couldn't really figure it out :) Just large koi or does it have to do with shape/coloring as well?

Here's my newest koi. He's spending the winter indoors in a big aquarium with some goldfish. My plan is to make friends with him and then put him in with my other pond koi (who I didn't make friends with prior to cold temps) and he will teach them! I give you Tulo (named for one of our Rockies who just made it to the world series :) ) who kind of looks like a little devil in this picture! lol

Thats a nice fish. Tosai means a nishikigoi [koi] of high quality. mostly small but any size. So how big is he/she

I see, so they are separated from the pack and called tosai or are they bred from better genes? I kept finding references to "Jumbo Tosai," so that confused me.
It's only about 5 inches. Very young still, but I swear he's grown a cm in 2 weeks!

Yes the koi are nicer and from better gene

I got the impression that tosai was more than that. I read that they were less than 1 year old and had been through a number of culling in an effort to produce better fish. They also said that these fish came from larger parents, so that there was the potential to breed more of these 'Jumbo Koi'.

Rick - how big are your tosai?

Lucille,

How nice - Thank you. We enjoyed seeing your pond and your fish too. I can't believe how fast we have gone from koi running over to greet us, to this Arctic freeze. I already miss sitting outside with the koi.

Hi, flkoi, I'm fairly new here, but I'm glad your back. Those are truly handsome,healthy-looking Koi. What an ideal way to photo them.

I am going to Staples at noon today to buy my very first digital camera. When I come back,I am going out to the pond and see if that ole "Stinger" will come up and give me a photo opportunity. She is the biggest fish in my pond and is quite sassy and bossy to the other fish;))
