alice,
do you still have this plant, outside??
i just bought one and i'm curious.....and crazy!
Same ? From moi
hey there, nery!
alice got hers from you?
I thought mine came from Carol Noel when I visited her in HI but my swiss cheese brain may be the problem.
Hi Nery!!!!!!! What's up?
wassup girls! We've enjoyed some rain this week, so I thought I'd make a nursery run. Found me some white canna and thinking that the soil would be soft from the rain, I proceeded to dig. Water had only reached about 1/2" so I started sweating like a dude, trying to dig some decent holes.
Tomorrow I'll have to do some serious hose dragging. agh!
so, Alice, do you still have that hibiscus? I see them at the nurseries but never in anybody's yard. Suspect they don't tolerate even a z9 winter. Tell us, please
Mine is in a pot and I move it to a sheltered inside corner of my deck during the coldest parts of the winter and it has done fine for many years now. I did have one in the ground about 6 or 8 years ago (the one that is pictured above) but during a cold, wet winter one year it bit the dust. They grow in the mountains in HI where it gets really cold at night but I think the key is excellent drainage, the soil is never damp there.
Same here with the rain, we have had some every day for weeks now but just a little at a time and it really has not soaked the ground at all. Sad part is there is flooding all around us on the mainland.
"sweating like a dude"! you are TOO funny.
alice says she keeps hers outside in a pot and drags it to a warm area (outside) in winter.
we've had a good amount of rain these past couple of weeks. when i dig down, the sand is nice and damp. don't want to be digging down in this heat though! LOL
ps. i'm keeping this one in a pot. it's trained as a standard, which i love, but they don't like me (too much wind here), so i have it tied to my chairs outside....sigh. i'll never get to actually sit in those chairs..

tracks, I love your bones icon. I'm feeling pressured to find a pretty & clever one like that.
i wish i could take credit for originality but i didn't make it up myself. i dragged it off of a FB page. LOL
how about the flag of your home town?
Too ugly, heh heh
The Yellow Rose of Texas????? :-)
Gr8 suggestion. Did u know, though, that there isn't such a rose. There are 3-4 candidates that people are pushing/lobbying so that state govt officially declares as the Yellow Rose of TX, but it hasn't actually happened yet. Some plant sellers market certain yellow roses as the Yellow Rose of TX, but there is not such rose, officially.
I'm sad to say that none of my antique yellows have survived in my garden. I do have some hybrids, Radler's "Sunny", Sproul's "Eyeconic Lemonade" and Shoup's "Republic of TX" that are doing well, but as hybrids (even if using antiques as parents) they fall to the bottom of the list of candidates. I believe one of the desired characteristics is that it be an antique rose.
Here is a nice writeup on the folklore relating to the Yellow Rose of TX.
