I got my delivery from Garden Crossing today and as usual the plants arrived very healthy. 2 of the items I have no experience with. Any input as to their care and culture greatly appreciated! Cornus 'Arctic Sun' and Physocarpus 'Coppertina' (Mindia)--ninebark? I also got Buddleia 'Adonis Blue' which is supposed to be good for a container. I have a rather large pot which has been empty for two years. I thought it was time to fill it.
Garden Crossing arrivals/ any personal experience?
I have Coppertina. Full sun. Not picky. Great shrub. The Cornus is a red-twig type. I would try to avoid harsh PM sun because of the yellow foliage. Also, try to place it where you will see it from a window in the Winter when you can appreciate the glowing twigs.
Thanks Victor! I planned on putting one of them in front of the bay window, so I think it will be the Cornus. Plantfiles lists them both as 8 to 10 feet tall. The ninebark could eventually hide a road sign in my front yard if it really gets that large.
Both can be kept smaller with pruning. In fact, with most colored twig Dogwoods (I don't have this one), you need to prune about one third of the old wood (once it is a few years old) because it tends to turn brown. It's the newest wood that is the most colorful. You will not be disappointed with Coppertina for sure - it's quickly becoming one of my favorite plants.
Check out the new foliage on Coppertina.

Nice pic Victor! Is that current? I'm beginning to think more like you. More shrubs with pockets of perennials for spots of color pizzazz.
Yes - that was from June or July of this year. I am doing that mix both because I like it and to make it easier to maintain with my aches and pains. And a decent size shrub in bloom, such as a Shasta Viburnum, is more spectacular than any perennial.
Here is my Shasta and this is not even at peak.

WOW, very impressive. I have two Snowflake viburnums but I don't think they have the horizontal form like your Shasta. Looks like Shasta is going on the spring "buy" list.
Victor do you have any trouble with the deer munching? A gorgeous shrub, I really like the horizontal growth. One more for the list. :)
Yes - always a constant battle. But when the shrubs make it to a good size, occasional munching doesn't do too much damage. The horizontal branching is one of the main features of Shasta - really makes it attractive in the Winter as well.
