hobby farm???

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Does anyone read this magazine?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I have bought it a couple of times from the book store but I have found I like Countryside better.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Haven't seen any of those magazines lately. Any good articles in there?

can you make the lavender oils at home?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Never read about that. Does it require growing your own lavender? I'm not having much luck growing anything right now. I am a sad excuse for a gardener but I keep trying. LOL

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I have never made it but here is a link I found that was interesting..
Cajun-I just picked up the recent issue of Countryside..
Are you on the Countryside website..if so what's ur name?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I used to visit it quite often but haven't for some time now. My screen name over there is Country. It's a pretty good site.

Yes, I read Hobby Farms. I like the articles about raising animals.

Hobby Farms definitely has a lovely magazine and web site. http://www.backwoodshome.com/ Backwoodshome.com is another good one -- a little more for the hardcore homesteader than Hobby Farms, I think.

i read hobby farms, its a pretty good magazine, i like the Q and A section. there are probably a few too many articles about heirloom crops and heritage animals breeds when people are more interested in commercial breeds and crops sometimes

Mother Earth News puts out what I think is a great magazine; it talks much about anything to do with homesteading in a sustainable organic way. It hits on much of the topics found here at DG. It's my favorite magazine of all time-for whatever that is worth to anyone... as a matter of fact I haven't gotten my Oct/Nov issue yet..got to go.

I find Mother Earth News is more geared to folks that have a LOT of money. I prefer Countryside, more homegrown solutions and I enjoy all the letters from readers, full of experience. I also get Rural Heritage, and right now they are running a good series on restoring wagons, the working sort. Overall I don't get much out of that mag, though. I also enjoy Small Farmer's Journal, both for the letters, the attitude, and the old reprints of books and pamphlets.

I agree about Countryside. It seems more geared to everyday folks who don't have a money tree in the backyard. If any of you have a tree like that, I'd like some seeds. LOL

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Money trees... wouldn't that be a cut you'd want? Me too!!
I think we oughta ask that fellow Paulson for some; he's obviously got one.
Or would that be a graft?
LOL

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

A lot of people get their money by "graft". LOL

Mother Earth News used to be a great mag. It told how to make everything with things on the junk pile. I quit my subscription years ago because they had changed so much. I agree it is more for folks who have money to burn.
