Can anyone tell me any other popular seed swapping societies that are at least CLOSE to being as cool as Dave's? Even the one's with a yearly fee I would be interested in. I tried Garden Web, it's OK, but not as organized as Dave's. Any tips, greatly appreciated!!
Seed Swapping Society?
Repeat after me..."There's no place like Dave's, there's no place like Dave's..."
Lol!! So far, that is what I am finding out. I scour the internet night after long night, and cannot find anything that comes close, I always end up pasting Dave's address to my browser and coming back!
Does anyone have Moonflower seeds available for trade or postage? I don't have a lot to trade, but do have Four O'Clocks.
jsxtiger, send me SASE
There's no place LIKE DAVE's.. there's no place like DAVe's.. it's true.
What are you looking for?? maybe we have it.. Welcome to DG by the way and you have some great Morning Glories posted to the MG Forum too. I'd trade with you for some of mine.

Oh, I just like to keep myself overly overwhelmed with postings and plants and trades......Dave's is starting to slow down a little bit for me, I have traded with about everybody... :) It's AWESOME. I only want one thing......ANYTHING I DON'T HAVE...lol.
That trade sounds great! I'm always up for some seed swapping. All you have is the dayflower? You wanted the blue star MG?
Well, my moonflower has a gazillion seed pods - how will I know when to harvest? We have had two nights of hard frost.
the seed pods will turn black when theyre ready to pick
Right now they are a really dark Purple and BIG!
if they pop open easily they are ready
I never get seeds off of my moonflower I have to trade for seeds every year! I start them in the house really early too :( Why don't these reseed like the other ones!!! Mine got soo close last year and then we had that early cold snap!
jordankittyjo, you haven't traded with me yet lol maybe next year I'm winding down in trades for the year but I'll have lots of plants in the spring! Oh I am saving seed lol I think plants way too much lol I still have so many seeds from last years trades that I'm not trading much this year unless I see something I really really want but that is the way I got too many seeds last year there is always something that I really really want! lol
I don't think you'll find another gardening site as lovely as Dave's! I love this place!!! This is the place to be!!
If you really want some of the 'Chameleon' and 'Virginia Creeper' I can send you some next year I'll be cleaning my shade garden out then and I can't get rid of the 'Chameleon' and the 'Virginia Creeper' So I know it will be back! Be careful what you wish for though they are very invasive I'm sure you know this though. I've been trying to get rid of them for a few years now!
LeBug, am looking foward to trading with you next year
I put them down on my list so I don't forget in the spring :)
thanks
I went to the morning glory forum and it suggested that you can cut the moonflower seed pods with stems still attached and then place them in "sugar water" (water with some sugar, I guess) and the largest pods will mature. You won't get seeds from the baby pods. Anyway, supposedly it is a way to get seeds despite frost.
So that is what I am trying.
oh, LeBug, save some for me also! I bought some virginia creeper unrooted cuttings off ebay last year and needless to say, they didn't get thier roots before they died! :( And I have been looking for a 'Chameleon'.
And I know what your talking about with the moonflower seeds. What's up with them?? I started them in FEBRUARY!! I got the pods, they just aren't turning!! I tried to pop one open, no use. We got our first frost a few nights ago so the plant is wilting bad. I snapped off the stem about 12" above the pod, I am hoping it will ripen because the pods I picked are huge and haven't grown for a month. So I am thinking they are done growing, they just need to ripen. If they are no good, I will end up trading or buying again, because, needless to say, I have to have them!!
Well, I will be going out to get more pods and trying that then because I only picked 3 and I have alot more big ones out there!
Seandor, I was wondering if we could save the biggest pods and put them in sugar water like they do for the hosta seed I'll have to try that for next year I didn't get any moonflower seeds to plant this year really missed them. I already have some for next year :) Not going to miss out on them again lol
Portiaraylee lol I was wondering who I got the moonvine seeds from I saw your city and checked it out, you need to put your DG name on the return address at least when you send seed out lol You naughty girl! lol I've got your fennel seed ready to send out today :) I'll get you some plants too in the spring, I'll put you on my list don't plant these where they can't take over or you'll be sorry like me I've been trying to get rid of this 'Chameleon' plant for at least three years! Beautiful plant though! I didn't plant the 'Virginia Creeper' it just keeps coming back every year we have it everywhere here!
LOl - yeah I need to do that, I know how confusing that can be, I get alot of packages from trades with no labels on them, and I have no idea what they are. So I just plant them and have to figure it out later! Lol. Anyways, I will print out some NEW address labels with my e-mail on them (same as my user name).
A plant I can't control, sounds good to me (ha ha).
I have no idea whether the sugar water will work with the moonflower pods - it is just something I read on the morning glory forum - but hey! I have nothing to lose! By the way, just as back up I have 3 free packages of moonflower seeds from T & M (45 seeds in total)!
So, I am covered, one way or the other. But I know morning glory seeds are a popular trade item so I would like to save some to share.
