I just saw this plant on tv and Ive just got to have it...Judy
Looking for Jatropha budda belly plant
I just looked it up, that is a neat plant, seems it's called gout plant too? wonder if it helps with gout.
I have one- but how do you share it?
Diane you have dmail...Judy
Hey! I think you all helped me identify the budda belly plant that I have had for a number of years. Juttz, it is a really cool plant!
How do you propagate? Does it seed? It's a slow grower for me. It drops leaves in winter and goes dormant. Thrives in the hot humid summer into Fall on the pool deck. It is still in bloom, should I check for seed? I guess those are seed pods in the picture. Well first tell me if this is the correct plant please.

Thanks,

Yes it seeds, but you have to catch it right before it opens or the seed will pop everywhere.
Hi Delisa,
Have you had experience with the seed? I very rarely collect seed from any of my plants and I have decided to start, but, I hadn't planned on collecting seed from the Buddha Belly to start out with. I was thinking simple like picking them from my 4 o'clocks :*) Thought I read about using a bag around the seed pod for other plants. Any suggestions? Do you know how to sow the seeds?
What a neat plant! I have never seen this one before. Here's the link to Plant Files .... I see there are a couple of folks who have it for trade ... maybe you can dmail them and see if you have anything to trade:

I checked both of mine. They are blooming but no seed pods as yet. If they're like other jatropha, they should be easy to start.
checked on my seed pods today and nothing that looks like it's ready. I want to put something around the pods to catch the seeds, any suggestions?
Do you know if Coral Plant, Jatropha multifida, would grow in a pot for me? I think that is a neat plant.
JJ
A nylon stocking should work. Lets air in but will hold the seeds. J. Multifida should do well in a large pot.
duh!! ROFLMAO . . . . (sorry) . . . a stocking would be perfect! Why didn't I think of that? lol
just finished attaching a stocking to my buddha belly using my all time favorite gardening tool (flashlight) thanks for the suggestion.
I grew Jatropha multifida in a pot for several years. Then didn't get it inside for the winter. Oops.
I hate when that happens. You think you got them all inside, but, I get use to walking by them outside and then you have a cold night. The next morning I wake thinking oops. . . Oh xxxx killed another one.
Judy, I have one you can have...
