"overwintering" peppers

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

I have a few pepper (sweet and or pasilla) plants that never grew to more than 4 or 5 inches tall. Can I overwinter them inside and plant in the spring?

Hey Dun1kirk; Yes,I overwinter pepper plants out in the garden. But I am in S.CA. It has been my experience that Bell and Ancho types don't produce large peppers the second season.

These were so small, they never produced ANY peppers.

I overwintered both bell peppers and chillies last winter in pots in the conservatory and they have made huge plants this year with lots of good sized fruits. I did pot them up with fresh compost. They cropped earlier and better than the ones sown this year as they were already fully grown plants and so flowered and fruited much earlier. I'm going to prune them back when they've finished fruiting so they make tidier plants next year (if they get through another winter). I try to make sure the temperature doesn't get below 10 degrees C.

Thanks. I'll re-pot and bring them indoors and try my luck.
