Newbie & need help regarding incarnata planting

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

I was just sent some seeds of passiflora incarnata (Maypop) by a very nice fellow DGer.

PF says hardy to zone 6. I've read elsewhere that this variety is hardy to zone 7.
PF also says one option is to sow outside in fall.
Could someone tell me if that would apply in zone 8 or is that only in warmer zones?
Thanks!

The seeds are very hardy, at least to zone 6 areas. You can sow them outdoors now, or if you want them to get an earlier start in the spring, you can store the seeds in the refrigerator in lightly moistened sand or peat until mid to late winter, move them to room temp and transplant to small pots as they sprout, then transplant outdoors after there is no risk of frosts.

Incarnata seeds from warm winter areas will often germinate without stratification, but the seeds from colder areas need to be given a cold period before they will sprout. Some only seem to need dry storage in the cold for a month or so. However, the ones here seem to require a cold and moist period of 1-3 months before they will sprout.

Hal, thanks for your reply. These seeds were sent to me from Alabama, where - I'm told - they grow wild.
Maybe I'll do half n half.
I appreciate your help!

They also grow wild in SW Missouri.

Thanks, Dylan. I had no idea!
I'm hoping I'll see some "sprouts" soon. :)
