Hi!

I'm interested in your Passiflora pfordti cuttings. I can trade you some Lady Margaret cuttings. I'm also interested in your begonias. I'll send you d-mail with everything I have to trade.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

OMG - That would be awesome! I've long been admiring that one!

I have tons of named Begonias, but I have no idea how to divide them. If you can guide me, I will send you photos/names of the ones I have.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you. It doesn't look like the one I had before, but I guess there's more than one cultivar. Duh!

Now if someone would like one of the 5 zillion babies...

San Antonio, TX

You have Dmail

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

The passi's are spoken for. I will let you know if I find that there are more than I think.

BTW - I have no idea how to cut these best for rooting potential, so any input would be greatly appreciated. (I'm embarrassed to tell you that the last 3 times I cut them back I threw the cuttings away. Ugh!

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Passiflora cuttings should be about 3-6 inches long. The lower leaves should be removed and a basal cut is made just below a node (leaf joint). Wrap the ends with moist paper towel then throw the whole thing in zip lock bag with some air in it. This will keep them fresh for the trip.

San Antonio, TX

Doesnt it deprive the plant of oxygen in a ziplock

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i am curious about this too anaid. i usually send cuttings with the bottom 3-4 in. wrapped in paper towels that are saturated in water to the point that it is standing. then i wrap this tightly sealed in plastic. next i put newspaper around the area that is sealed in case water leaks and then wrap the whole thing in more newspaper. i have received even plants inside ziploc bags.........if the weather is cool there is no problem but if it's hot the plants are usually black and rotted when they arrive.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Anaid....Plants do not need oxygen to live.

mamajack....I use your method with most every plant I ship and with semi hardwood and hardwood cuttings. With thin leaves and stems I like to use the method I discribed to provide them with thier own little green house for travel (ziplock bag) to keep the leaves hydrated. Rooted plants should NOT be put in a zip lock unless you have washed off ALL the dirt, this is hard to do. . Dirt causes bacteria to grow and thus the plants rot. I have gotten my share of stinky plants because people ship mud with the plants in a zip lock. P.U.!

Looks like I may have a few more trades of the Passiflora. I will keep a list on a first come basis for when I cut these upon my return from vacation, 11/5. I'm hoping to get them mailed on that Tuesday.

The brugs aren't ready to cut yet, since there are still several dozen buds I'm looking forward to visiting with before I cut the plants back.

(How is it best to cut there? Green wood? Hardwood? Offshoot?)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Forgive me - I'm going to be a little "behinder" with my end of this deal. I cam home from vacation to find a VERY sick kitty. SHe's in the hospita now and may have to be put to slepp tomorrow. I will get things together over the weekend.

Thanks for your patience!

On the upside, this is what else I came home to...I cn't tell you how awesome my basement smells!

So sorry about your kitty. We love our pets so much and it hurts so badly when we can't do any thing for them. Know that we are all thinking about you and will pray for peace for your family knowing that you did your best. Elaine

((((Janice)))) I am so sorry about your dear friend.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I picked him up at the vet yesterday and buried him in the back yard (definite no-no around here, but my vet was cool with it). I planted a large stand of Rose of Sharon on top - I hope they take as they would be lovely tribute to him. They are the white with the ruby throats. He was a white kitty with big black "cow" spots.

RIP little fella...

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

My deepest condolences on the loss of your kitty...

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Ok, back amongst the living...

I have packed up trades for KathyJo, Theresa, AuntBee, and Lazlo - slowlly working on the rest. Happgarden is next up to bat, and Flowerjunkie - I'm still working up the nreve to tackle the big boys!!! Soon, I tell ya!

I have the passis, snail vine, and brugs cut, dipped in rootone, and sitting in water, so they are being prepped for travel as we speak!

Thanks for your patience.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

So very sorry about the kitty. I still listen for my baby at times. Cathy4

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Sorry, I got sidetracked by the kitty. Are the yellow cannas taken? Tks, Cathy4

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

No one took any cannas, but in the rush to get evverything into the basement, I got them mixed up, so it would be pot luck. I mean, there were 2 pots of canna on the back staircase, so I'd give you a couple from each pot, but then only half would be yellow.

Sorry - my head's just not been screw on straight!

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

sequee, i totally understand, TOTALLY. I'm going to pass because I have lots of red and you need to just relax. When I had baby put down, the vet's office didn't even have kleenex, I used half a roll of brown hand towels, sobbed all the way home. When Rockie (the dog) died here at home, I cried for days and days. I'd give you a hug if I could.
