John Perez email offer

Richlands, VA

I just received an offer from John Perez, the guy who used to have a Gardening TV show, promising to send an "e-book" for a mere $29 that tells how to make hibiscus grow twice as fast. The book is supposed to include all sorts of other gardening helps including how to make your own fertilizers and insecticides.

Has any one had any experience with this man's books or gardening info.

Personally I never trust any of those sorts of things--there are a lot of things out there along those lines. They all seem to make a lot of too good to be true claims, and honestly I just get really annoyed by that sort of marketing tactics. I've also never been a believer in the Jerry Baker school of gardening where you take various household products and mix them up and throw them on your plants, and to me this sounds very similar. When you take that "kitchen chemistry" approach to fertilizing/pest control, typically the ingredients in the recipe do have something in them that could provide something beneficial to the plant (such as being a source for N/P/K, etc), but they often come along with other ingredients (like alcohol) that have no business on a plant and could harm it. And these DIY concoctions are generally not any safer or better for the environment than some of the things they're trying to get you to replace even though they try to get you to believe the contrary.
