Monster Egg, must be something in the air

Woodsville, NH

I just found this still warm egg in the coop, its lighter than a reg maran but must be, unless a turkey laid it, O doubt she could have fit her big bottom in the nest and I think those are white???? It looks like two eggs fused in the middle, one of my girls must be happy to have gotten that out!

It might have a double yolk!

Ouch! that's a big egg. When I had a turkey her eggs were always white. I bet it is a double!

The egg turned out alittle darker after I washed away the chalky white stuff. After I show it to my nieghbors tomorrow I am going to eat it!!

LOL They must be laying bigger eggs to help keep warm or something. LOL

My huge one WAS a double yolk and both were the size of extra large eggs!

I think I might blow out the egg, pics are good but the shell would be better!

LoraK, Our Bronze hen turkey lays creamy colored eggs with brown speckles all over ..... like on sandpaper. They are significantly larger than chicken eggs for sure ..... about the size of eggs from Swedish Blue Ducks. Our duck eggs are white.

We've been blowing out some eggs and I have a bowl full on my desk. Hubby went to Tractor Supply and bought the biggest syringe and needle they had and it works pretty well! Unfortunately, someone slammed the fridge door and cracked my monster egg. booo hoooo!

I found some sites that sell egg shells and I was amazed! The Ostrich eggs sell for $12-16! I didn't know Emu eggs were black! Other eggs were much cheaper. Maybe I am trying to sell the wrong stuff. LOL

Crackers and tea! My poor hen. LOL Hubby just brought this one in!

Badseed, I've too have gleaned from discussions that double eggs are caused by the hens being "not well adjusted to their surrounding". A move or a change in the chicken coop could mean their lives were not as settled.

Thank goodness that doesn't happen to humans. If I recall I moved just about everytime I was pregnant. 4X in all. No twins thank goodness! LOL

I had a hen that would lay a triple yolk egg several years ago. I would happen about every 6 -8 weeks. We didn't move or make any changes, so I think it was due to something else. The eggs would be the same size as a very large goose egg. My dad didn't believe I really got them from a hen. So, one morning I went over and said to him to come to the table. I got a bowl and broke the egg in front of him and out came 3 nice large eggs from the one shell. That was the only way to convince him that it was true and not a joke.

I have heard that young hens are more likely to lay doubles than older ones.
