Twisted Carrots

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

Hi All:

So this is the first year I have been able to successfully grow some normal size carrots. But the ones I have picked so far are all twisted sorta like a corkscrew.

Haven't tasted one yet. What can be causing this?

If your soil has rocks in it (even little stones), I think those can deflect the root as it grows and cause some odd shapes...

I'm really not sure. Mostly I'm posting because I want to see photos of your corkscrew carrots! If you could grow them that way on purpose, you might have a commercial opportunity LOL (like those doughnut shaped peaches).

Carrots need a fine soil with no rocks or they will deform. Don't know how the farmers do it but I can only imagine and yeah, those donut shaped peaches sell for a buck apiece down here. They must use gold to fertilize them.

Hi Guys:

This bed was fairly fine but maybe not fine enough. I did a second planting in the bed next to it so we'll see if hey have the same issue.

How have you guys been? Haven't chatted with either of you in awhile.

If you have any rain, send me some! LOL

We've actually been getting rain the last couple of days... for you folks in GA, we could spare a drop or two, but we were getting pretty desperate for it here.

I still think we need photos of the twisty carrots.... :-)

We actually got some decent rain over the past couple of days.

My camera has been misbehaving. I think I need a new cable. Will post as soon as I can

BB -- Fixin for some rain right now although we are still on water restrictions. Finished and set out all my tomato plants. Also went for veggies of all types. Figured I'd give it a go...
